That match is Stephen King's favourite, followed closely by Gorilla Monsoon vs. Bruno Sammartino from MSG in 1969. I had the brief but massive pleasure of interviewing Gorilla, and he said that he was okay with being number two on King's list, because he himself loved the Blanchard-TA match.

Terry Allen was given that win on such a high profile card because the Crocketts planned on having him beat Ric Flair and be the guy who finally put a dent in Hulk Hogan and the WWF. Fate, speed, alchohol and a car accident intervened. TA never fully recovered and is now in the gym/car business.

If you watch closely, you can see that every time either man blades, (intentionally cutting themselvs with a thin piece of razor blade to produce real blood) they do it in the direction of the hard camera. This was usually a big no-no, but was necessary in this match because the State Atheletic Commission was still at ringside in the Carolina's in those days, sitting opposite the camera that night, and so all the tricks of the trade had to be concealed.
