I was just wondering what you think what song each member of the Hip is totally awesome on. In other words, what song do you all think displays each member's talent the most?
Here's my 2 cents:
Gord D (Vocals): The Dark Canuck
Johnny (Drums): Are You Ready
Bobby (Guitar): New Orleans
Gord S (Bass): Grace, Too
Paul (Guitar): Little Bones

Gord- his vocals on Leave and Good Life are a thing of beauty. In fact, that entire album features some of Gord's best moments as a singer.
Gord Sinclair- the bass riff on Twist My Arm kicks my ass every time. And Grace, Too wouldn't be the same without that melodic bass line weaving it's way through the song.
Johnny- any live version of Grace, Too. There's so much room in that song for cool drum fills, and Johnny never disappoints. I was also really impressed with his drumming on Train Overnight, as well as Lonely End of the Rink and The Drop Off.
Paul- his understated guitar work on Bobcaygeon and Throwing off Glass is the heart of those songs. And of course his most memorable moment is the main riff to Little Bones.
Robby- his incredible solos on Nautical, Gift Shop, and The Dire Wolf are nothing short of genius. I also really like his creepy solo on Tiger the Lion. Robby's playing is emotional, rather than flashy. I'm sure he could "shred" just as well as any other rock guitarist out there, and he does have moments where he really lets loose (The Wherewithal, Fire in the Hole, Heart of the Melt, etc...) but for the most part he just plays it cool and lets the song dictate the solo. I think that's what makes him so unique and underrated. To quote Dave Bidini, "Baker's playing is what gives the Hip's songs their painterly colors."

My faves, off the top of my head..
Gord S. - Grace, Too (I would say the Day for Night album as a whole has beautiful bass lines throughout)
Paul - tough one here, but I'll say Thugs for guitar and for his backing vocals - ABAC and Lake Fever
Gord D. - Are We Family and/or Flamenco
Johnny - Train Overnight
Rob - Dire Wolf

Sure WorldPeace, what is Gord's best song lyrically?
My favourite song for lyrics would have to be Another Midnight but it's a real tough choice.
Also, I gotta agree that Paul's backup vocals on Get Back Again are amazing!!
