First Post for my -- Hip played during Wed night Oiler game
#1

While watching the game last night, i noticed that they played some Hip at a stoppage in play. Is there a large cdn influence in the Carolina area? or is the music slowly getting airtime further south?

BTW: I love this forum, although i have never posted, until now....

I've heard some snip its while watching a few games this season. One time it was in Tampa Bay. I don't know what the reason is but I like it! Oh and welcome!

Welcome daxton!

I don't know if there is a large Canadian contingent in Carolina, or just a fan in the DJ booth. I think that Hip songs are played at most arena's because the players want them played. With such a high percentage of Canadian players on each team, I would guess that they might put in suggestions/requests for what gets played.

I was in Dallas in 2004 for a Stars game and right before the game, 'She Didn't Know' came over the PA. I was stunned, but not as stunned as I was when 'I'm a Werewolf Baby' came on during the second intermission!

My uncle is a reporter for an American news channel and he says that many times after the hockey game when he went into the locker rooms for some interviews, the Hip were were cranked!!!

Total speculation here....

i have heard that here in Detroit , the Red Wing players actually have a say in what is played over the PA. Maybe some of the Canadian players on the Hurricanes or any other team by that matter have recommended the Hip be played.... Just a thought...... :thumb:

I know the DJ at GM Place for the 'Nucks (and sometimes Giants) and he's mentioned before that alot of his playlist is made up of player requests with key times of the night where they should be played. He fills out the list with tracks as similar to the requests as possible, to keep a certain 'flow' throughout the game.

That would be a prett sweet job. Whos bright idea is it to crank the Black Eyed Peas when the Oil hit the ice. Christ whats with the Canadian love affair with these guys. Junos, Grey Cup, Oiler games etc... I would play Vicarious by Tool for the Oilers. How do you not smash something when this song comes on?

I was in Carolina for a couple games this year.......and was pleased to hear at least 2 Hip songs during warm up.....then parts of other songs during TV time outs and also during intermission.

There are lots of Canadians living down there.
Sporting our Team Canada hats/shirts etc.....many of us were approached on numerous occasion by fellow Canucks just wanting to say hi.

I would say the majority of persons down there are either in the teaching profession or medical field.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend a road trip down to Raleigh.
I know I cant wait to go back next year.
Fans were great....arena was great....tailgating superb.

Welcome..and No, there is not a large Hipbase at ALL here in the Carolinas. Everytime I've seen the Hip, it's 70% Canadians in the audience travelling to the show. It's a rare, rare occasion to hear
the Hip at a party (unless it's mine) or out at a bar. Sad

The only upside is that the shows are usually 1000 audience, and
a lot of fun. Lots of air conditioning jokes.

kind of sticking to the tread, Courage has made the playlist is some walgreens drug stores. i know there aren't any in canada, but thereare over 5000 stores in 48 of the states. i was hoping that after NOIS was pulled after the hurricane that something would take its place. if i had to guess which one it would have been Courage.

I heard Courage a couple weeks ago in a restaurant up near Ashland. I pretty much went nuts.
