Strippers on Hockeyville
#1

Quote:The Strippers will be playing on CBC's "Hockeyville" June 11th. Check your local listiings for times but it is usually 8pm. We'll be playing "Shake it Off (Walking With the King of Funk)". The lyrics will be slightly different for all you people who like to record alternate versions....set your VCRs and Tivos.

In what is either one of the 7 signs of the Apocolypse or incontrovertable proof that I'm too much of a Rob Baker fan, I plan to watch Hockeyville on 11 June 2006.

I mean, Hockeyville? I don't even watch hockey.

I just watched it, and it was a standard solid performance.

Rob was decked out with cool sunglasses, and a party-approved cowboy hat.

Well, well, well.....I got the opportunity to volunteer today for CBC Hockeyville cuz i am a recent graduate of the television course at Mohawk College. This was the only day that they needed volunteers cuz it was the last day of the show.

My job basically was crowd control, making sure people sat where they were supposed to be seated and things like that....i also got to see everything that goes on behind the scenes and it is pretty surreal stuff!

I aslo had the pleasure in meeting Rob Baker!!!! right after the taping of the show and it was the first time i've ever met anybody associated with the hip (except Jake Gold a few years back). That was even more surreal and didn't know how to introduce myself cuz i was pretty nervous, which was obvious whenever you'd meet someone that you really enjoy listening to.

So we chatted for about 5 minutes before he got on his way...saying the new album could be out around Oct 24th this year, how there will be only 11 or so songs on the new album having recorded about 15 or 16 songs, i forget the exact numbers.....he looks forward to the fort york shows in toronto....got his autograph on the back of my volunteer pass and then he was on his way!

It was a bit of a blur as i was pretty excited at the time!...but it was definately a pleasure to meet him and I'm so glad that i volunteered cuz i did not know ahead of time that he was gonna be there too! aannndddd i'm kicking myself now that i didn't bring my camera but oh well! :thumb:

That's great! Instant karma - the good kind! Out of the goodness of your heart, you volunteer and you're rewarded immediately. Excellent.

I saw the show last night. Wow. Except for Strippers' Union, it was incredibly dull. Do you think that's because I don't really like hockey or did hockey fans find it kind of dull as well?

But Rob looked great and the Strippers sounded great.

Congratulations on meeting Robbie, Wheat_King! I also appreciate the info on the new album that he spoke to you about.

The preview blurb about the show linked by Hairbird spoke of new lyrics for the song "Shake It Off". Did anyone notice a difference?

There was some hockey talk in there but I don't have any details. I didn't read the whole blurb until after I watched the show so I didn't know to listen for differences. I spent the first bit of the song explaining to my daughter that it wasn't the Hip and that the 'long-haired' guy is in another band as well.

I did notice that there were some changes to the lyrics. It took me awhile to clue in that they were hockey related. I probably clued into the hockey theme when Northey yelled out "slapshot!"

I think I also heard:

Shake it off like a Johnny Bower kick save
Shake it off like an overtime close shave

Well, I did have an Ontario birth certificate and a Canadian passport, but both have been seized by the government while they investigate my claim that I was actually born here and still don't like Tim Horton's coffee and/or doughnuts or hockey.

I was thinking of taking refuge in a church basement but they wouldn't take me because I'm an atheist too.
