Oh come on. You don't think Nick Lachey, Ashlee Simpson, Brian McKnight, Big Tymers, and Lindsay Lohan got radio play on their own merits?

Don't count on it. It's a case from NY state, so it doesn't affect what's happening in other markets. And it doesn't mean that the record companies won't continue to look for ways around the law in NY state, either.

One of the tricks unearthed in this investigation was setting up bogus contests with bogus winners, to funnel the "prizes" to compliant DJs and program managers. That's blatantly illegal. You really think they're going to stop?

I wouldn't be too surprised if UMG and all the other major labels start investing in Clear Channel and the other major radio groups as a way to get around the bribery statue. Let's face it, as long as the major advertisers and product companies are successful on getting that oh so important 18-34 demographic, you'll still see schlock like Nick Lachey, Lindsay Lohan, et all. Christ, they even have OJ Simpson doing a reality show now. :roll: :roll:
