TOOL - 10,000 Days.
#1

Well, the long anticipated release is finally here!!
I picked up the cd this morning (although i did have it much earlier- sorry, I couldn't resist it). At first only a few songs stuck right away, which for me is untypical with Tool, I'm usually instaneously mesmerized by their all-round talent. This cd was different however. Vicarious, Wings For Marie/ 10, 000 Days (a 17 minute epic about dealing with the loss of Maynards mother - if you didn't know already) and Right In Two were instant ear-tinglers. Now after a few listens, the cd is exactly what I had hoped for.

Although there is a change in lyrical direction from Maynard, it works out very well. He's no longer telling his listeners to "spiral out" and "push the envelope, watch it bend"...this time he's more in your face and direct. Vicarious is a prefect example.

The band has once again kept up with the completely original cd packaging style. Artwork from both Alex Grey and Adam Jones collaborates into something truly amazing. You'll see what i mean when you buy the cd.

I would love to hear what other people on this board think of the new piece.

Joe.

PS- I'll be at the Hummingbird Show in 2 weeks- anyone else going?

I just gave it a once through and I think its a solid album. Vicarious is a killer song, that and Right In Two are both pretty awesome. And I agree the album art is amazing, very cool.

Ive seen Tool live once before, and they are something else, well worth seeing if you have the chance.

wow.... just wow. I'm only on 10,000 days and think it rocks already.

But I have to say this gets my vote of best packaging of the year, if not decade. And it's only 9.99 at futureshop today!

Well, i've listened to the entire CD. It's pretty damn good! Like Solid said, it's not a real "ride the spiral out to the end" kinda mind trip that Laterlus and AEnma were, or at first listen doesn't seem that way.

And I love how songs just flow into one another, in essence making one gigantic song..... (Wings would be 20 minutes long if put in one song)

It also sounds produced differently.... making Maynard's voice sound... different. I can't put my fingers on it yet.....

But all in all, a good album!

I'll be honest: I haven't made it through the entire thing yet. Tool albums make my head want to (need to?) explode; I just can't absorb them all in one sitting. On that note, I'm not sure what I think about it so far. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I don't *get* it, if that makes sense. This doesn't surprise me: Lateralus took me a good year to fully absorb. Plus, the new Pearl Jam album came out yesterday, so my ears have been distracted. Wink

Still, I'm seeing them live in two weeks, which should effectively win me over--if I haven't been won over already. Which I would imagine I will be.

I like this album so much I have to post again.

The Pot is amazing, its now my favorite, the last 2 mins. of that song are totally fierce, I had the stereo going full tilt today and it just blew me apart.

Such a great album, those 3-D pics are wild.

Tool rocks!

To steal a quote from another board, I finally put my finger on it.

This CD seems sad and creepy to me.... in a good way. Just the way the music is played seems so... sad. And horror movie-ish. I dunno, I can't explain it that well I guess.

The only thing rough about the TOOL CD is that I'm now torn about flooding my senses with Hip music till the show at the Gorge vs. listening to it. Absolutely one of the best I've bought in a long time. And his voice...yummmmm. I've always loved it.
