Let the great re-build begin. TSN.ca is reporting that Pat Quinn has been fired. According to Sportsnet.ca Rick Ley will also be joining him on the unemployment line.

I'm torn. The Quinn Era was pretty good for Leaf fans (especially compared to the Mike Murphy era), but I suppose it was likely time for a change.

That being said, JFJ better make some pretty damn good moves this offseason. Now it's all on him.

Quinn and Ley are gone. Let's see what Ferguson can do. Hiring Maurice would be a good start. Getting rid of Berg, Khavanov, Belak, O'Neill, Antropov, and Belfour would also be welcome.

In an ideal world, that would be awesome. Unfortunately he's wormed his way into a friendship with Tannenbaum and Peddie (which is how he got the ridiculous contract in the first place) so he won't be going anywhere....despite his claim that he had offers from 12 teams when he was a free agent.

i'm not a leafs fan by any stretch of the imagination..in fact i hate them..but geez..some of those questions in the press conference were a joke..if i was ferguson i would have told them to fuck off more than once...and as for domi, he really didn't say "yes" to when asked if he'd be back

Hopefully this is the first of MANY necessary changes....I want JFJ to be right behind Quinn on the Unemployment Line...as far as I can see he has done absolutely nothing positive for this franchise...your time is up John, Beat it!!!

That press conference got out right ugly. It went from let's talk about Pat's firing to "what have you done for us lately John?" It actually just reaffirmed my position that Steve Simmons is a dick.

JF Jr made a good point about his draft picks, and Alison's 60 points in 66 games is pretty impressive... but yeah, he probably has to go soon too.

Does anyone hold the position that he isn't a dick? Strachan is the exact same in my books.

Easily the worst thing about being associated with the Leafs - or even being a fan - is the smug all knowing Toronto Sports Media. If Simmons, Strachan, et al are such geniuses, how come they've never run an NHL franchise?

As for Fergy, I think he deserves one more year. I honestly do believe that he was setting the Leafs up to be buyers this offseason once the "New NHL" was more clearly defined (i.e. would the new rules stick, would the refs really call obstruction, etc). Now that it is very clear that speed is the most important asset, and now that the Leafs don't have a ton of money tied up in current contracts (assuming Belfour gets bought out), JFJ has a chance to prove his worth. But if we're on the outside looking in again next year, then MLSE needs to hire away someone like Brian Burke.

Oh man, I'm salivating at the thought of Burke as the Leafs' GM and Strachan trying to pull his shit. I bet Strachan would be too chickenshit to show up at the press conference!

I thought Simmons rip-job was appropriate...It would have been better if he phrased it as a question, i.e. "How can you justify firing a coach when the team appeared to get better when some of your key acqusitions left the line-up?", but it had to be mentioned...I don't agree with the wording, but it had to be said...pressers cant just be Paul Hendrick lobbing soft-ball questions.

Strachan, however, I can live without. And as being a partial/sorta member of the Toronto sports media, I do agree that it is terrible, esp. surrounding the leafs.

Im utterly convinced that the Leafs wont win a cup no matter who they have on their team. I think they may be cursed like the Red Sox were, maybe Harold Ballard had something to do with it?
