2006 Winter Olympics Thread
#1

Well, the games have been officially declared open...so I was figuring we should declare an Official Olympic thread open.

By the looks of things, Canada has sent a great team this year...hopefully this year we can avoid the bad start that somehow plagues our Country. I think 3rd place overall in the medal standings is not out of the question for us this time around, as we ramp up for the 2010 Games.

It was a dream of mine to make it to the Olympics one day, and I still get choked up when I hear our National anthem play as an athlete stands there and sings along...what an amazing feeling that must be. This is my Super Bowl...I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Canada won its first medal today. Jenneifer Heil won a gold in female moguls. And I'll admit, its the first time I heard of her too.

The Canadian women's hockey team has gotten off to a great start. At the end of two periods, it is 9-0 over Italy.

Not surprising in the least. As usual it'll be Canada and the U.S. playing for women's hockey gold, and I'm sure our ladies will win it once again.

Before the game I predicted 15-0 so I was close! Italy is just a road apple (wink), the US will be the big test for the women as usual, those games are always fun to watch.

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

I watched Heil's gold medal live on the Corp. There's something about judged (or partially judged) events that sort of take away from the purity of the olympic moment, putting it a notch below bailey's 9.84, Canada's hockey golds in 02 or Whitfield's triathlon excitement.

But still, my heart was pumping pretty quickly while watching.

(I was excited to see Heil win, but the Norwegian girl who won silver..... smoking. )
