totally disagree with your so hard done by comments..to me that is what the album is all about..dark..moody...and a perfect example of how lyrics and melody should compliment each other....other than that..well..i don't want your ego gettin any bigger

I also disagree with So Hard Done By. It is one of my favourite hip songs to listen to just for listening pleasure. I think it really adds to the album.
Day for night is staying in my iPod. Hey, I'm not a music stealing asshole. I bought the CD- after stealing it.
Haha I like "on coldplay sucking" though.

So Hard Done by is a favourite of mine. That song fits perfectly with the mood of the whole album. It's the tail end of the album that doesn't work for me.

I commented on your MSN blog but for the most part, I agree the masses that FITH & SHDB are essential tracks that contribute to DFN's overall importance in The Hip's catalog.
On the blogging front, MSN Spaces isn't really the best you can do, especially if ego is a factor or interest. I highly recommend
EFx2 Blogs. It's feature-packed and allows for complete customization through a very simple interface.
I maintain my primary blog, Every Irrelevance, on my own domain but also have an
EFx2 blog for some more personal interaction with other former users of the now pathetically unreliable ModBlog community.

I totally agree Skip, if DFN has a flaw, its definitely the ending. Titanic Terrarium is one of my all time Hip songs I love it, but putting Emergency, Titanic Terrarium and then Impossibilium together at the end really doesnt go well for me as a closing trio.
Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

The 18 reasons why Coldplay sucks is FANTASTIC. Truly a great read my man. I know a lot of people on here love Coldplay but I'm with you. I agreed with all 18.

Lovely to see the comments, I mean I don't profess to be all-knowing. You know what they say: "Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one." Monsieur 'Tude, I have seen them live four times, all recently, and have seen FITH once and SHDB never. FITH was awesome live. My comments are solely based on the album, and I mean I stick by them, and that's not to slam the songs, I just don't think they are of the quality of the rest of the album, and like I said, there really are few good reasons to have albums with more than 13 songs. And I know there are a bunch of great albums with more, so please don't go listing them, it's just a general rule, as I said in the entry, DFN is my favorite album, period, so obviously it doesnt hinder it that much in my opinion.
As for the blog site, I blog so I can write, I enjoy writing and moreso, just like getting my thoughts down. If I ever decide to actually give it an actual 'go', of course, I will go to a more reliable site.
And as for Coldplay sucking: I just don't think they are the greatest band in the world like everyone says they are. The anger with which it was written was a bit tongue-in-cheek. It's the exposure and press they get that bugs me more than the music, although I don't think the music is great.
Once again, thanks for reading, writing for writing's sake is fun, but people reading adds something.

Different songs affect us all differently so varying opinions are to be expected. Thet's one reason why I love the fact that Gord deflects "what's it about" questions.
As for Coldplay and their press, I have an almost violent aversion to U2 (more specificaly, iBono) for the same reason.

Nice comments lilbones! I also liked the Coldplay comments. I don't loathe Coldplay, but they don't do anything for me at all. Numbers 9 and 10 on that list are classic!

To comment on the Coldplay piece, my personal favorite reason was, "5) When Paul Rudd said to Seth Rogan "Do you know how I know you're gay? You like Coldplay," in 40-year-old Virgin, everybody understood. And that movie was right about everything." I *really* had to try not to spit out my coffee; dead on in your reasoning and a hilarious movie.

Really? An Inch An Hour is the only song that sounds out of place for me.

The dud on that record is 'Emergency' in my view. 'Inch an Hour' is a good, necessary rave up, driving us towards conclusion.
I'll throw my hat into the ring of 'SHDB' defenders. Not only do I think it works in the context of the album, I think it's one of the Hip's very best songs: the perfect fusion of sound and lyric, exquisitely sung, minutely and powerfully observed - plus it has Dylan-worthy lines such as
It's so deep, it's meaningless
That tune (like some others on DFN) shows Downie at his absolute peak as writer and performer, in complete sync with the band.
