Hi All,
I was wondering/hoping that some of you might have traveled to Costa Rica before. My friend and I are wanting to go in the next couple months - we're thinking, no later than the end of April. Do you have any suggestions...places to go?...things to do??...places to stay? I would love any and all feedback! In advance, thank you SOOOO MUCH!

Hi Sarah -
I went to Costa Rica in Nov. 1999. I loved it, would go back in a heartbeat. I was there for 8 days, covered both coasts, and some spots in between. MUST sees are Arenal Volcano, which is pretty much in a continuous eruptive state. It's more like the Hawaii volcanoes, not Mt St Helens, as the lava just flows down the sides. At the base is a natural hot springs area which is wonderful to be lounging in while the the volcano is spewing steam above you. Around Arenal are the cloud forests, which are basically rain forests, with amazing birds and fascinating vegetation. On the east, or Gulf coast, is Tortuguero Nat'l Park, which is where the turtles breed. Nesting season is in early fall so you wouldn't see them now but there's tons else to see in the jungles - monkeys, caimans, gators, Jesus lizards (they run across the water - its amazing to see), toucans, tons and tons of other birds, and stuff I can't remember right now. Another big thing are canopy tours, where you zip through the jungle - Costa Rica is where that originated. Excellent white water rafting too. There's also some really nice all-inclusive resorts on the Pacific side.
This is all pretty general stuff, how long are you thinking of going? That might deterime how much ground you can cover. Be warned - roads are NOT good. Very windy, twisty, bumpy! But who cares when the scenery is so awesome!
