Where is all this money coming from? I thought this team was destined to mediocrity. I dont get this Burnett deal, the guy was 12-12 and he gets $55 million bucks?

11 million a year? Sounds legit to me. W-L records don't mean jack, LK. AJ has electric stuff, as shown by more telling statistical indicators like ERA (3.44, very low for a starter by today's standards), and WHIP (also well below average).....
I'd be excited if I were Jays fan.....sure wish the fricking Reds would do something this offseason....

It looks as though this is do or die time for Ricciardi. The Jays just gave him three more years. He had promised when he came to Toronto that they would be a playoff team by 2005. If they don't make it by the time this contract is up, he'll be toast.

Well, he's the best FA pitcher in the market this offseason, and I fully expected him to go for about what Toronto inked him.
Pitchers are commanding more and more money with each passing year.
Everybody says that any team "overpays" with every new top -FA pitcher contract, but the reality, this is what today's market bears. Burnett isn't an "elite" #1, but he's a solid #2, and this is the money these guys earn in todays FA market, like it or not.
I say you're much better off "liking it" - because your team got him, and you aren't really the one with the burden of paying is salary. Pitching is EVERYTHING, and you simply MUST have it to play in October.

yeah thank you mr.rogers !! they may have overpaid but at least both guys are secured for the next five seasons, burnett throws smoke 98miles per hour fastball w/ a wicked slider, brad ansberg was also his former pitching coach
now if jp can trade batista/hinske for a good bat i'm happy
but for the love of gawd keep hudson!!
