I still get chills whenever I hear the CBS call, even when saying it to myself:

"And now the two-two. Well hit down the left field line! Waaaay back... And Gone! Joe Carter with a two-run home run! Your winners, and still champions: The Toronto Blue Jays!"

Right up there with "Henderson took a wild stab for it and fell..."

"Touch 'em all Joe, you'll never hit a bigger homerun in your life!"

I remember watching that game. I was only 9. What a night. I also remember watching the Jays win the '92 Series against the Braves. Mike Timlin threw out Otis Nixon to (who else) Joe Carter at first base on a bunt. Wow.

In case you guys wanted to get those chills again, I made Carter's HR footage available on my website... here ya go

Carter's Series Winning Home Run (right click "Save Target As...")

speaking of the world series, remember how McDonalds had the sets of Blue Jay baseball cards going out... I think I've still got the whole set of them. Remember Kelly Gruber hitting for the cycle in 92?... wow... I just realized I was only 11 years old

remember that triple play against the braves where Kelly Gruber dove at the guy, David Justice I believe, at second base and tagged him out but he was called safe. It all got started when Devo made that incredible catch up against the wall and then threw a gun to Olereud, man what a great play that was.

There's so many great moments from those two years. That Gruber triple play was matched only by the slide he made at home plate which knocked him out. Friends of the family had a satellite dish (back when they standard NORAD sized things) and we were watching the live feed from Skydome.

During the commercial break, it was really tense as everybody crowded around Gruber's carcas at home plate. It looked bad. Eventually, the EMT's had to revive him with smelling salts and help him to his feet. A real trooper that guy.

I also love the romantic story of people in cottage country rushing to their radio's in '92 when the cable north of Barrie went out across the top of the province just before Otis Nixon came to the plate in the 10th. There's a cinematic gem waiting to happen: the image of thousands crowded into their cars in the blushing October Muskoka's, intently listening as Nixon ground out to Timlin... and then honking their applause.

Anybody remember that huge Nike ad/mural painted on a building across the street from Skydome? It was a black and white image of Carter's swing with the only words reading: 10:38pm, Sunday, October 23, 1993

I do remember that. Then they changed it to a Damon Stoudamire rookie of the year ad. Couldn't tell you what it is now.

As someone who would have had tickets to game 7, I say "curse you Joe Carter"

Cheers
