I just got "in the trees" great album. Some awesome tracks. Thought that any day now was on there, and was a bit let down at first to find it was not. That's the reason for the emails this morning. Thanks again to those who helped; and to lance who put it up on the podcast deal. Seriously, that is a great idea, the whole podcast thing. My music library had been stagnating.

The Watchmen, RIP, were fantastic from Cracked to Soft Parade and every song in between.

I remember them doing an album preview on Q107 or Edge 102.1 just before In the Trees came out, and they played Boneyard Tree, and I said to myself, "I need to buy this album!"

Yeah, I know... but I'm sick of hearing about Winnipeg... I wish somebody would mention Toronto just once and a while. Centre of Canada, it's really windy, Neil Young... okay, okay, Portage and Cool, we get it. Winnipeg, Winnipeg, Winnipeg.

Ditto on the second best band. Seeing them open at the amp for The Hip in '02 was great.

Such a great band. Have really gotten into them over the last few months. Anyday Now is one of my fav songs all time. Totallly related to it driving home to chicago for thanksgiving.

Yeah I saw them open for the hip at bayfest one year, I sepnt their entire set in line for the bathroom and in line for beer...but they sounded great, I had one of their albums but i forgot it in Canada...

I'm actually making cd of nothing but Toronto songs. Needless to say, I'm feeling a little homesick. Included are

Chirstmastime in Toronto - GD
Don Valley Jail - Stompin Tom
Lakeside Park - Rush
Horses - Rheostatics
Jane - Barenaked Ladies
King of Spain - Moxy Fruvis.

There's also a song I just got called "Free Toronto" but the name of the woman escapes me. She's quite good though.

That said, I am kind of stuck trying to get a playlist together (or even get enough songs to send in a playlist for "Random Happiness" in the Sunday Star). Any suggestions?

Back to the topic, there's just somethig about songs about Winnipeg that are so transferable, that they can be about any place in time. Any Day Now reminded me of coming home to the local bar at Christmas after my first year at Queens. Recently, the odes that the Weakerthans have wrote have hit the spot. Left and Leaving is the soundtrack to driving through a dying small town on an former King's Highway; hell, even One Great City (complete with it's "I hate Winnipeg refrain) speaks to me about how I feel about Thunder Bay.

I miss the Watchmen. Of all the 1990s Can-Rock bands of my youth, they're at the top of the list of bands I wish were still together. It's sad though that the list just keeps getting longer and longer.
