Yeah, i'm talking to you. In two days, Joss Whedon's Serenity hits theaters in the U.S. and Canada. For those who haven't drunk the proverbial Kool-Aid, Serenity is the feature film that continues the story of the failed television show Firefly, which gained a cult following after it's cancellation.
I'm one of those crazies who've watched the show from the pilot (which wasn't really the pilot...damn Fox  ), was saddened at the cancellation, and convinced a whole bunch of my friends to buy the DVD set. Why was I able to do this? Because Firefly was the best damn sci-fi show in the last 5 years, and it's finally getting the credit it deserves.
I wouldn't lie to you guys, this is going to be awesome. This could be the next Star Wars. So trust a fellow hip fan and go see it. You won't be disappointed. :thumb:

It really is an awesome show, and it's going to be an even better movie. I'm having trouble getting any of my friends to go with me though. Apparently space westerns don't appeal to many people. And when you try to explain as coyboys in space you get a weird look followed up by a you're crazy look when you say it's a cacelled show on FOX from the guy who made Buffy and Angel!

Well, I saw it twice this weekend. It did $10.8 mil in the US, which isn't even enough to make it the number one movie. Damn you, Jodie Foster!
Hopefully word of mouth will keep ticket sales strong, and there's certainly going to be brisk sales on the DVDs. Doesn't seem like enough to warrant sequels, but just getting Serenity looked impossible two years ago.
On a side note, this movie was definitely better than any Star Wars flick made in the last 10 years. :thumb: George Lucas needs to take notes, and stop thinking Jar Jar is what his fans want.

I wanted to see that Clooney flick about McCarthy, but it appears to be playing strictly in art houses and drive-in's... and it just so happens I'm sternly opposed to art, houses and all forms of pre-martial groping... so maybe we'll go see this.
