What new old songs would you like to see on Gord's album?
#1

I can't wait for this album, and since it's been almost two months since it was announced on Feb 3rd, I'm getting super-eager to hear the tracklist! I can't wait to listen to the lyrics, then go back and listen to 2002-03 show bootlegs and try and hear them in the rants!

Anyway, my question is what unreleased songs would you love to see Gord bring out for the new album, along the lines of Every Irrelevence and Lofty Pines, which were floating around for years before he put them down on Coke Machine Glow? I would LOVE to hear him revisit:

- Blonde Solid
- Get Back Again
- Work That Hard
- Montreal

There are many songs that they never released, but these are in the best shape, so to speak. I think they'd fit his individual stylings perfectly, and I'd love to hear them on the new record.

Release a tracklist already!

I think its really important to distinguish between Gord's stuff and the Hip's stuff. To me the songs you mentioned are the Hip's stuff, not gord's so you really wouldn't see 'em.

I have a feeling you'll see "Life is forgetting" on there though.

I'd agree with that. Those seem like old hip songs to me. Although I think it'll be "life is for getting"

Now that you mention it, that's probably right...never mind my choices Sad I was just trying to think of songs that I've heard bits of in Gord's rants; seems anything he does for a rant stands a chance of becoming an album song, even earlier stuff...

After CMG which was a lot of rant/intro/outro stuff, I am kind of hoping for something we havent heard at all.

By the way, the crew & musicians that helped Gord on the first album, who'll be on this upcoming album? Same guys? Maybe some could include Sarah Harmer or Hayden?
We'll see....

From Billboard:

(NEW YORK) - Gord Downie, lead singer of the Tragically Hip, will release his second solo album June 3 via Zoe/Rounder Records in the U.S. and MapleMusic Recordings in Canada.

March 20, 2003

(NEW YORK) - Gord Downie, lead singer of the Tragically Hip, will release his second solo album June 3 via Zoe/Rounder Records in the U.S. and MapleMusic Recordings in Canada. Clocking in at just 37 minutes in length, "Battle of the Nudes" is the follow up to 2001's "Coke Machine Glow," and will be supported by an extensive tour. "I'm interested in doing anything that teaches me something," Downie said in a statement. "As a result, I've found that I'm writing more than ever. In fact, the day after I mastered this record, I was already back to writing with the Hip. Ultimately, what I want to do is more. I want to get better." Once again backing Downie on his solo outing is the Dinner Is Ruined multi-instrumentalist Dale Morningstar, drummer Dave Clark, and keyboardist Dr. Pee, as well as the Skydiggers' Josh Finlayson on bass, guitar, and vocals, and Julie Doiron (Eric's Trip, Wooden Stars) on bass and vocals. Downie and Morningstar produced the set, which was recorded over two five-day periods in 2001 and 2002.

In other words...same group as last time... Smile

Hopefully, this is a case of quality over quantity!

The part of the above paragraph that jumped out at me, was the line "...the day after I mastered this record, I was already back to writing with the Hip...".

That ought to discourage any Hip-break-up conspiracy theorists that may be lurking out there...

Thats awesome news .. I cant wait to see gordie solo. That line about writing more for the hip jumped out at me too. 37 minutes seems short but 10 or a 11 tracks similar to the last hip Cd.. Anyone know why gordie cancelled out on the ottawa junofest?
