Ahoy, I've got the opportunity to learn how to play the drums, the guy says i 1st need a metronome, i think he said? Can any of you drummers suggest a reliable/good metronome and where to get to one? No music shops in Inuvik.... Thanx in advance....... :thumb:

I'm still a novice drummer...but...

Drums are loud. Deadly loud. They will screw your ears up. Therefore you should be wearing hearing protection whenever you play, so that you're not listening to the thunderous drums pounding and killing your ears.

A metronome however, tends to be a little box that goes "click click click" at a pretty low volume. So whatever you buy, you need to have a way to block out the noise of the drums and still hear the metronome.

One thing to do (and what I do) is to just get a standard run of the mill digital metronome. It's important that it has an output for headphones though. Get those little bud headphones that you stick in your ear, plug them into the metronome and then buy a set of the earmuff style hearing protectors (bright orange is a nice colour) to go overtop. As long as the metronome you bought is loud enough, you should be able to hear the click and the drums at a comfortable level.

and some isolation headphones will do the trick nicely for that.

Another option is to get isolation headphones that have a built in metronome. This way you don't have to bother fussing around with all the stuff I was talking about up there. You just put them on and select the metronome speed you want and you're off. Here's a couple examples.
