Anyone else a fan of his books? Have read a few: Vile Bodies, Decline and Fall, Handful of Dust, and just finished Brideshead. This dude can write. Seriously, he and MacClennan make Hemmingway and Fitzgerald look like pussies.

Hugh Maclennan makes Hemingway look like a pussy?
Please.
The way The Sun Also Rises climaxes and then makes life into so much white noise: that's a stylistic tour de force, right there, a writer's lesson on how to write.
Where does MacLennan hit that level of mastery?

It's true. Hemmingway is a legend.
A more accomplished writer in terms of style and substance, I have not come across.

Fitzgerald was a drunk hack that wrote one good book.
