Hey guys, the globe and mail has confirmed that the Hip will play Live 8. Everyone start making plans to leave the cottage on July 2nd to attend Live 8.

july 2nd is only 11 days away, when the hell are they going to announce this thing!
I cant see it being at the EX , being such a small stadium compared to the other two venues..although its the only one i would consider going too, i absoultely hate outdoor big venues. I'm sure someone will be taping for those of us whom cant make it.

They've already started stage construction in Barrie....

Coincidence? Apparently Downsview is now available for July 2nd...

Caravan was scheduled to run from June 21st to July 4th at Downsview...
With Molson Park's limited capacity (less than 50,000) I'm sure Downsview (which held more than 10x that for the Stones) would be a far more desirable locale...I guess we'll know soon enough...

Ummm... me. But what about tickets? There have been "lotteries" to get them at some of the other venues. What's happening here?
And does this mean that SRB cancelled their show in Thorold?

they are free, on go "online" thursday at 10 am at ticketmaster.ca

Barrie is the location chosen to host the Canadian leg of the Live 8 concert series.
Toronto had hoped to reap the publicity bonanza from the July 2nd world debt reduction event taking place at seven other cities around the world.
But in the end, Barrie became the de facto choice only because all the other venues in this city capable of hosting such a large gathering were either unavailable or deemed not suitable.
Park Place was the only large area that could be made ready in the short lead time, now less than two weeks away.
The drama played out like a soap opera after Ottawa announced last week that it couldn’t hold the concert over security concerns. Barrie will now join London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, Johannesburg and Philadelphia hosting the big show.
And despite pronouncements by Mayor David Miller that it’s for a good cause to aid the reduction of poor countries’ debts, he has to be bitterly disappointed by the failure to land this huge musical fish.
It’s expected at least 150,000 will attend the concert, and they’ll be spending their money at Barrie’s restaurants, stores and attractions, not in Toronto. And the world exposure will be gone, as well.
Local officials had hoped for a huge tourism boost from the event, which will likely be lost as a global audience wonders where the relatively low profile “Barrie” is.
They’ll definitely know many of the performers, though. Bryan Adams, Blue Rodeo, The Tragically Hip, Great Big Sea, Our Lady Peace, The Barenaked Ladies, Jann Arden, Bruce Cockburn, Sam Roberts, Simple Plan and Tom Cochrane are among the Canadians on the bill.
International rockers Motley Crue and Deep Purple will also be there.
And Celine Dion will make a special appearance by satellite.
The concert will begin at 11am and go until all the acts are finished.
Dan Aykroyd and Tom Green will co-host the show, which will be a boost for Barrie and a blow for T.O.
