I don't want to be in some massive stadium after paying $75 with 15,000 yuppies pining away for some lost decade. Not to mention the beer prices.

These are the BOYS, and damnit, I wanna be with 5,000 of my close personal friends from places I've never been, drinking cheap beer, surrounded by hockey jerseys - It all comes together when, you know, like, that feeling of hearing Boots starting and high-fiving the person next to you just because..it's BOOTS!!!

if you don't want to seee them open for the stones, don't go and quit fucking bitching about it, it's really that simple...why all this negativity? The Stones are still great live, and the fact that you have the oppertunity to see The Hip & The Stones in the same night should be viewed as a very special privilege rather than a punishment...besides you've probably already seen the hip live 20 million times. why not just be grateful that you're even getting an abbreviated set from your favourite band to get you ready for THE ROLLING STONES (who i might add can hold their own just fine against any other live act on the planet)? don't be such a bunch of "negative nancies" !

I think it is great that the boys are opening for the Stones. I wish it wasnt on the other side of the country from me, otherwise I would be there.
I hope the boys blast out a bitchin' performance and show a whole bunch of people that havent even heard of them, and a bunch that have, what a fabulous band they really are.
Couldn't hurt to have favourable opinions from the Stones themselves either.

they played some mudpit in Vermont last year - a "pharewell gig" ..I think actually there are some phans still roaming Canada thinking they are in Connecticut.

The Stones are a huge influence on The Hip and are one of their musical idols. It's the kind of stuff you dream about when you start playing guitar, bass or drums. Why would they turn down a chance to open a show for their idols? I remember an interview with Gord Downie where he said he used to hate Rush so they turned down a chance to open for them in the early 90's in the States which he regrets doing now because he's become a fan.

It's the same reasons why Jeff Ament said Pearl Jam is opening for The Stones. Two guys in the band (Mike and Stone) were/are huge fans so it's fun for the rest of the band to see how excited they get when their around people that have had such a huge influence on them. They also said they had alot of fun playing with them last time, so why not do it again while they still have the chance?

I understand that the Hip are big fans of the Stones, so I understand why they'd be opening for them. But I definitely agree with AndGraceToo....I don't wanna pay 75$ to see 6 or 7 Hip songs, then stand in a stadium to watch a band that I feel zero connection to.
I guess from my perspective, the Hip are being very selfish, which is completely justifiable. They don't owe anyone anything, they played a wicked tour last year and entertained thousands of their fans right across the country. They must be personally overjoyed at opening for a band who they openly credit as an influence on their music.
I'm currently playing in a band which is of a musical type that is completely different from the Hip. If I made it big (and I won't), and the Hip ever offered us the opening bit at one of their shows, I would jump, nay, leap at the chance. The hypothetical fans of my band probably wouldn't be big on the Hip, but I am, and because I had already played a sold-out arena tour for them that year, they could go to hell.
