As posted in an earlier thread, Gord Downie showed up at the Daniel Lanois show Saturday night, and sang backup on the 3rd song of the show (don't know the title). After the song, he walked right by me up the side aisle of the theatre. I jumped out of my seat, and caught up with him. Shaking his hand, I told him it was a pleasure to meet him. He asked me what my name is, I told him "Scott". He said "thank-you Scott". I said enjoy the rest of the show, and great job on the song.

I didn't want to take up his time, as he was there to enjoy the show, and what a show it was!

I was going to try to get an autograph at the end of Lanois' performance, but Gord went backstage during the last song, before the encores and I didn't get the opportunity. Either way, it was a great pleasure to shake hands with him again, and a fun night out on the town.

He was a lot taller than I remembered (I had met him in '92 under a similar circumstance, at a Skydiggers show at the Bathurst St. Theatre.) I'm almost 6"1', and had to look up at him. His vocal style was along the lines of Get Back Again, which sounded amazing with Lanois' voice.

He's like 6'1" because I know someone who is 6'2" and has met him and he was a bit taller than him. However, I met Gord in October and he does tend to slouch so I'd be interesting to see how tall he really is.

Me, too. I thought The Tea Party did a pretty great cover. It's one of the best tunes on Triptych.

This is just my opinion, but I thought it was a mediocre cover from a mediocre album (Triptych). Admitedly I'm an old school Tea Party fan... for no reason whatsoever I just stopped listening after Transmission (I liked that album). Edges of Twilight is my favorite album of theirs.
But getting back to my point ... I'm a Lanois fan and I have a hard time with any band trying to cover one of his songs.
