dave mathews appreciation thread
#1

i don't know why there's all the dave hate around here..if you've ever seen them live, you know they put on an amazing show, and as someone else pointed out..they're very original and much better than the default/nickelcreed sound....all of the musicians are very talented at what they do, and although i'm not a fan of the new cd, i will go see them live again, and support good music!!

not a fan of the new album either, but I dig DMB, the Everyday album was the one that got me into them.

Imagine a world before the "beginning was the word.”

I got into DMB when Crash was released. I haven't enjoyed the subsequent CDs nearly as much, but I've been to two concerts and both of them were great. Much like the Hip, the CD versions of songs do a disservice to the live versions.

Sure, DMB isn't for everyone, but the hatred for them here is bizarre. I mean its not like they are the Yankees.

i am a huge DMB fan. they fight the hip (and usually win) for the title of my favorite band.

i really like their new cd... it took a few listens to get into it, but it rocks.

but yes... their live show is where it is at.

they also just announed a toronto show for sept 3. no other information has been released.

I was a minor fan until seeing them live in 2001, and have since been converted.

They are "The Shit ™"

While I can't stand the new American Baby single on the radio I have to agree that DMB is a great band; my fav cd of theirs has to be Before These Crowded Streets :thumb:

They were incredible at woodstock 99, I remember seeing it when it was live on sattelite. Not nearly as good as the hip's performance but still good.

They lost me somewhere after the first album, not sure why.

Like I said in a previous post, I'm not a huge fan, but they're very talented and they've got an original sound. The Crash album is great and Before These Crowded Streets was decent, but after that they kinda lost me. I saw them live in Ottawa in 2001 and they definitely put on one of the best live shows I've ever seen.

I agree with everything you said here (especially the Yankee part  ) I got into them because of Crash, seen two concerts, don't understand the hate.

Glad to see so much appreciation for Before These Crowded Streets, Dreaming Tree definitely one of the best songs ever. Maybe their CDs have gone down, but I really dig some of the newer songs since then such as "Bartender", "Grace Is Gone", "Dream Girl", "Hello Again".

I agree, "Bartender" is an amazing tune. I also really dig "Big-Eyed Fish".
