WOW! The Hip played tonight at the GIFT & Chron's and Colitis 2003 Super Gala at the Metro Convention Centre.... they were awesome... It was a business/black tie event to raise money.
It was obvious that Gordie and the boys were a little mocking of the swanky crowd who paid 600$ for a dinner and a hip show, but it was enjoyable nonetheless....
There were lots and lots of rants, but they were inaudible due to the setup, gord did the "Shhhhh" grass thing, and "swim"... those were easy to hear...Also, a lot of playing/fighting with the mic, telling the people they looked beautiful all dressed up, made a comment about the table being in straight lines and the candles (centre pieces) all the same, but each being different....
Here's what they played in order:
Use it Up
Grace
Music @ Work
New O
Fully
Silver Jet
Bobcaygeon (song about a town in S. Ontario....Im in love with I cop, and I cant stop)
Nautical
Fireworks
Poets
Good Life
100th Meridian
Springtime
Gift Shop
Dire Wolf
Ahead by A Century
Bones
Encore:
Lake Fever
Courage
nice show, overall, awesome... what a treat....
Ahead by a Century was dedicated to Valentine's Day!
Glad I got to catch this one!
g'night all

What? What? Are you kidding?
I'm shocked that I did not know about this one.
I thought I was pretty Hip to this stuff.
You'll probably tell me it was listed in plain english on their site.
Awesome for you!
Mats aka Bry.
P.S. hey Coldlakeswimmer, I'll take you next time. I took my dear mother to the Walk of Fame Induction and Ceremonies (she's a big fan).
Hung out with the guys.
No offence, I just hope that you are a single "mama" though.

Hey Mats,
*chucks husband into the hall closet*
*looks around innocently*...
LOL
I would ditch hubby anytime for a Hip event. The sad part is he knows it
Thanks for the offer, and to answer your question I am always available to go along with fellow Hip fans, considering you are a balanced individual and all. I hitched a ride to ARSA in 93 with a girlfriend with complete strangers (Hip fans), it was the best weekend of my life! I still stay in touch with a couple of those people.
I think it is very cool you brought your Mom, I hope my son does the same for me when he is older.
Cheers~

What a terrible setlist. Only four songs from IVL, virtually all the others the hits. They seem depressingly willing to live off their past legacy setlist-wise this tour.

Once again, well done Ambitionless one...
Hey Coldlake...
That's good to know. I have a few guys and gals that do the same thing.
We are all over road trips and quick journeys. It seems this would be a great medium to recruit people to go on Northeast road trips in the future. You know, in the summer...for a week or so.
Fun.

It would be so much better if they played all of IVL on the (ex-?)current tour, together with the choice old classic. At the moment the "hits" are being tossed off virtually all in one show, losing all their meaning and specialness. They would still put on a great show if they played the following setlist...
Use It Up
Music @ Work
Grace, Too
Darkest One
Are You Ready
All Tore Up
Opiated
Good Life
Meridian
Throwing Off Glass
Dire Wolf
Lake Fever
Beautiful Thing
Poets
Silver Jet
Dark Canuck
Tiger the Lion
-------------
Leave
Fire in the Hole
-------------
Ultra Mundane
700 ft Ceiling

Mats,
I am really looking forward to my son being old enough to go to the outdoor shows, so we can just pick up and go. Those were the days that we would "just decide" in a splinter of a mili-second that we had to go to a show. Just with the look in someone's eye, you know?
Our little guy loves the Hip, and he was old enough to understand that we were going last summer to TO and Walkerton. He wants to see Gordie he says, or "talk at him on the phone". He says Gordie "is my man , Mama". I can't wait to give him the experience.
