Just heard an interview with Sean Burke on the Score. He says he disagrees with Jeremy Roenick's idea of players voting on the latest NHL proposal because some guys would certainly be voting in favor of a cap, which would only cause unwanted dissension within the union. What a jackass. Heaven forbid we find out what the players are really thinking about all of this bullshit. F**k I hate the NHLPA. My guess is that if they had a vote, at least 50% of players would be in favor of a cap, maybe more.

Oh yeah, he also said he disagrees with everybody who uses the NFL cap system as an example. I'm paraphrasing here, but I believe his actual quote was: "if you talk to any of the players in the NFL, they'll tell you that it's the worst possible system you could ever play under."
So according to Mr. Burke, the most successful & profitable league in the world currently has the worst system one could play under. What is this magnificent weed he's smoking, and where can I get some?

btw, the average NFL career is only 4 years, their average salary is lower than any other league, and they run the highest risk of being seriously injured, sounds like a great system to play under eh? all we hear is selfish players vs. selfish owners, but i'm starting to see a disturbing pattern of selfish fans who don't care at all about the players that play the game they claim to love so much, or about the long term well being of the game. The NHLPA is in the right to hold out, the NHLPA didn't lose all that money, the league did due to poor decision making, it's the league's mess to clean up, a good start would be firing Bettman and bringing in somebody capable of doing their job (losing a few teams might not hurt either). The league has a long history of being in bed with the owners and trying to screw over the players, they never wanted a union, they fought it hard, and lost, fast forward to present day and they still don't want a union, their fighting it hard again trying to break it, but the union has the power and leverage over the league, as long as they stick together, they will win, because collectively they are the best hockey players in the world, and they're irreplacable.

your average player isn't a Michael Vick, and Eli Manning is way overpaid, he sucks balls, they should've stuck with Warner.

no, that's what the league wants you to think, and what they want the lesser known/paid members of the NHLPA to think, but it's not true, Goodenow has done a better job for his players than anyone could've ever expected out of him, he should get a medal of honour or a nobel prize for having top put up with that weasley little bastard Bettman and not choking him out yet.

Gary Bettman is a complete f***ing asshole who has completely ruined the NHL. He pulled a team out of Winnipeg and moved it to Pheonix where nobody knows a thing about hockey. Introduced teams to Carolina, 2 teams to Florida (where some of the people in the town didn't even know their team had even won the Stanley Cup) and completely alienated most of Canada, the country where the NHL began, by signing a shitty TV deal with ABC which if there was a season this year would have seen Sturday afternoon matinee games in place of prime time games. He does everything he can to make the game more popular in the southern U.S. where nobody gives a shit about hockey and never will. In game 6 of last years finals, Calgary scored a goal in the last few minutes of the third period that would have put them ahead and won the Stanley Cup for them, but the play continued and nobody reviewed it because god forbid a Canadian team could win the Stanley Cup, it might piss off the 2 casual hockey fans in Tampa Bay. And in game 7 when Calgary was coming on strong in the last few minutes they got one of the biggest bullshit penalties I have ever seen in my life watching hockey, to squash all their momentum. I'm glad there's no season this year because I wouldn't watch the NHL anyway. I'm not gonna watch it until Gary Betman gets replaced. I'm not sayin the players are right with the lockout issue, personally I think they're being a bunch of greedy assholes, and I've completely lost all respect for Martin Brodeur, but when I look at the two evils Gary Betman will always be the lowest. I hate that guy and I will never agree or side with anything he believes in. The NHL has gone right down the shitter since the early 90's when he became commisioner. The talent level is so watered down and clutching and grabbing is almost completely taking all of the skill out of the game. You no longer have to be fast or skilled to be drafted, you just have to be big and able to grab on to someone.
