O.K. So today, I inadvertently found myself in possession of a very famous celebrities home address and cell phone #. What I did with it, I will save until later. Here's my question...
What if you somehow found yourself in possession of something this guarded? What would you do? What if it was Gord's home phone #? Johnny's e-mail or Bobby's pager #? What would you do with it? Would you use it? Burn it into your memory? Throw it away? Answer honestly, I'm just curious. There are no right or wrong responses....

I'd burn it...
I think it's a pretty shallow thing to do... extremely intrusive, and just down right insulting to the celebrity, and a real expression of what kind of dignity you possess...
I myself have access to celebrity numbers and addresses as well, but have never been tempted to contact anyone, in part because I could lose my job...
Although I would never try and contact a celebrity, if I were to write it down, and I had a few too many at the bar that night, I'm afraid what would happen... maybe a quick buck on E-Bay?

Depends who I suppose.
Most likely I'd disregard it, I'm not much into celibritydom, and even if it were someone I admire (i.e one of the members of the Hip) who am I to intrude on their lives?

Anything more than email, like calling them or showing up arbitrarily at their house is rather...whats the word, ah yes, fucking creepy!

What could you possibly accomplish by calling or visiting or writing? The first thing they'll ask is who are you and how did you get this number, and you're not going to want to tell them. I woulda tried to forget I ever knew.

I could be wrong, I suppose, but I don't think das_hips was being directly accusatory. As I read it, I inferred the
universal you, a generalization.
As for me, it would depend on the artist in question. I don't think I'd do anything with a phone number but if I had an address (and didn't acquire it by nefarious means), and the artist was one who's work moves me, I might be inclined to write a letter, send a birthday or Christmas card, or something like that. If I were so inlcined, I'd most assuredly explain how I came to know their address and apologize for any intrusion.

yeah... I wasn't stating that you had or were intending to contact this celebrity... it was a generalizing statement... 'you' only referring to somebody who has taken the opportunity to call or write a celebrity... I was never taking a shot at you...

I say treat them like any other strangers info. Would ya call John Q Nobody out of the blue?
Of course, one good laugh isn't going to kill anybody. So, get some friends together, get Johnny Depp on the speaker phone and have all your friends ask him what Edward Scissor hands was "really" about? Just as starts saying "who is th..." hang up on him. It's fun for the whole family. Then toss the numbers.

I would just get rid of the information - what good would really come of it? It's not like this celebrity would want to become friends with a random stranger....or even want to take the time to have a conversation with one. I totally agree with Stephen that in any other situation you wouldn't call a complete stranger just for the hell of it. Just because this person is famous, they are still a stranger to you and me.

I wouldn't want to call them anyway, because:
a) I have nothing to say to them that isn't completely inane.
b) I might find out I don't really like them, anyway.

i wouldnt call the person, it would be very rude, if i was the "celeb" in question and a stranger called me out of the blue, id change my number. i like what dame said, would you call a strangers number if you found it? I got nothing to say to anyone famous anyway, there are people id like to meet or talk to but i mean if i got to meet the hip or another favorite band of mine, or someone i respect i would just give a thanks and maybe ask some questions, but if i got lets say.......britney spears' number id throw it in the trash, id be too tempted to call up and prank her :lol: id probably get charged with stalking or something anyway, i dont need the trouble.
