weakerthans / constantines The Rolling Tundra Revue 2005
#1

everyone needs to be at these shows, tour of the spring.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE!

The Weakerthans and Constantines in ... The Rolling Tundra Revue 2005

The Weakerthans and Constantines are setting out on a full and extensive coast-to-coast tour of their home and native land. They'll cross their fingers that the weather holds, the ferries run on time, the roads are clear, the gas is cheap, and the prairie winds are calm.

After a journey through the American southwest in late 2002, the two musical combos became friends and mutual admirers. Upon reuniting in the fall of 2004 for a show in Ottawa, thoughts turned to confederation and the expanses of Canada. Oh those large and beautiful expanses! A ridiculously ambitious tour was proposed, guided by the spirits of Festival Express and Rolling Thunder Revue. If only they could find a train with which to cross, they said! No train was found, no one they knew had one that's for sure, yet the idea was sound, the maps were true, and they decided to forge on.

Forward to The Rock! they said. To Cape Breton! To the great port of Halifax! Through New Brunswick and up the mighty St. Lawrence to the metropolises of upper Canada! Across the Canadian shield to Winnipeg and the great plains beyond! Through the Rockies and all the way across the straight of Georgia to Vancouver Island and the old city of Victoria! To be joined by their favourite Canadian bands along the way! They bring the tidings of rock and roll! They bring the dance of eager travel! They bring stories and song!

We know this much to be true:

Boy thats gonna be sweet. Wish they were playing a different venue in Saskatoon though. The atmosphere in the U. of S. bar blows.

They play Toronto the weekend that classes end Smile

If I budget properly, five shows are a distinct possibility.

You can add April 3 in Kingston at the Elixir to that tour.

It'll be the 7th show in as many nights. Hopefully JKS doesn't lose his voice like Emily Haynes did this past Thursday, in her 7th show in 7 nights.

I cannot wait

I was at Sunday's show in Kingston. Here's what I can make of the setlist (by the way -- world's smallest setlist ever). It's mostly in order, as the encore doesn't really match up with the set

Manifest
Our Retired Explorer
Water
Elks Lodge
Aside
Benediction
Night (new song -- it's Night "something", about the people in your life who are dying)
Confession of a Futon Revolutionist
Reasons
Untitled (new song -- "I have more faults than the state of California)
Plea from a Cat
Reconstruction Site
----
One Great City (solo)
New song #3
Presence of Dawn
Pampleteer

Come to think of it, I don't think Aside was played. I think A New Name for Everything was done insted. Not completely sure though.

Regardless, you're in for a treat

Cheers

yeah, it's a short set. I saw both nights at Barrymores in Ottawa and apart from 2 or 3 differences in the set, they appear to be playing a standard setlist from night to night....

great shows though... enjoy!

really eh?

nah, i got there for the first bands both nights and had tickets for a month or so. Both nights were sold out though.

But I had to get there early. That's the best thing about the tour. Each stop they get a couple of local bands to play before the constantines... in Ottawa it was 4 bands from Kelp Records:

Andrew Vincent and the Pirates
Greenfield Main
The Recoilers
South of 78

Great stuff....

I've heard that the reason for the short sets is because it's a co-headlining tour with both the Weakerthans and Constantines playing for about 70 minutes each. I managed to get myself on the guest list for the second Calgary show, and I can't wait. It's gonna be amazing!

At least in Kingston, the Constantines set was shorter. I'd say the Weakerthans set was on par time wise to the last time they played here.
