Ok wise hipbasers, whats the deal with this track?
It's obviously one of, if not, the best track off of IBE, and yet it has been ignored on the tour. So, my question would be:
a) Has anyone seen it live?
b) Why are they not playing it?

I actually skipped Heart of the Melt this morning for probably the first time ever ... but that is because I just needed to listen to One Night in Copenhagen since I hadn't had a fix in a while. Heart is right up there with Josephine, Copenhagen, and Makeshift in my books as the cream of the crop.
I don't know why they ain't playing it. Probably gets in the way of backfilling their setlists with Greatest Hits.

Actually, to disagree with High, I think it was played in one of the Mod Club shows in Toronto prior to Canada Day at the Molson Amphitheatre. However, I believe it has only been played once or twice since the album came out.

My assumption is that HotM is one of those songs that they just couldn't bring off live as well as they wanted. It _is_ a bit frantic, and probably very easy to lose control of, particularly in the last 30 seconds or so. That said, if they can knock the hell out of Fire In the Hole so reliably, I'm sure they could make HotM work with a bit of practice. My dream show would close the main (pre-encore) set with both those songs, back-to-back.
Shame, really. The "dorsal fin" segment would be a huge crowd-pleaser live.

i definitely saw them play it in philly and it was awesome! bobby tore it up. i agree with trips...would definitely like to see it in more setlists.

Thanks to Hugh's request we indeed got it in Philly. It was in the encore and rocked so hard.

They definately played it in Philly and it was awesome. After the show we told them how awesome it was and they all seemed to think it wasn't their best performance... I dunno.... it's one of those things where only they hear the faults I think.

a) It's probably my least favorite track on IBE, and
b) They do play it live sometimes - or - wait....is that Fire in the Hole I'm thinking of? I guess it doesn't matter either way - I'm headed to the bar or the bathroom if they play either of 'em.......

They played it for the Vancouver club show, I'm sure.
It kicks ass and its omission must be for some technical reason...too hard to play/sing? :roll:

I whole-heartedly agree - Heart of the Melt is the most underplayed song on IBE
I have a friend who was chatting with Bobby after the Sudbury show. Bobby told him that they've tried this song in sound checks and just can't find a live version they're happy with.
I was also assuming that it was not played at a live large audience appearance other than the IBE album premiere shows.
