Aside from the "Practically Hip" and "Little Bones", what other cover bands have you seen and which is the best?
It doesn't have to be a TTH cover band, could be one of Van Halen or AC/DC....
I haven't seen one myself, but I'm going to see the Practically Hip on the 28th of December.

My ex-band doing Guns 'N' Roses for two gigs only.
The Australian Pink Floyd, and Pink Fraud were pretty good.
I haven't seen that many cover bands... I'd rather watch something orginal.

While I would tend to agree with the "lame" comment, there is a place for them, particularly in locales where the real bands would never tread...
Case in point, I remember seeing an AC/DC cover band ("Riff/Raff", if memory serves) at Stages in Kingston back around 1990 (?); It might have been the beer, but I recall them being pretty damn good, and highly entertaining...
My other experiences with cover bands (Eagles, G&R, and (forgive me) "Shania Twin") have been less than memorable...
I've never been able to bring myself to go see a Hip cover band, but then, being fortunate to be in the Toronto area, we're not exactly under-serviced by the real band (by my count, including the Hamilton shows, 9 appearances this year alone!)...

Strictly Hip is a great Hip tribute band. They play in Buffalo mostly. They have received awards for "Best Tribute Band" and "Best Lead Singer" for Jer Hoyle (lead singer of Strictly Hip). If you're from the Buffalo area you've probably heard of them or seen them many times. If you haven't, check out their website for some dates. www.strictlyhip.com
Also, I've had the misfortune of seeing the DMB tribute band Tripping Billies. These guys are aweful. If you have the chance to hear them play, don't.

I've seen Little Bones, Rain and Comfortably Numb. All of which were good....actually Rain was friggin incredible.
A guy I work with plays in an AC/DC tribute band...listen to this line-up...My co-worker is 4'10" tall and plays the drums, his wife is an amputee and has a prosthethic device that attaches to her limb at her right elbow which holds a guitar pick...she plays lead guitar a la Angus Young and can really light it up..and last but not least, the lead singer is a woman who tips the scales at a solid 250.....but here's the thing, they're actually really good.
They're called Bare Rump and they play a lot around the GTA, Simcoe County and down to SW Ontario..if you get a chance check em' out.

I saw Road Apples years ago and really liked them. I bought a CD of their originals under the band name Vagabond Groove, but someone stole the CD. There were a couple pretty good tunes on the disc.
Sandman is probably the best cover band that I have seen. The do all pre-Black album Metallica stuff and do a damn good job.
