Anyone else pick this up? It came out yesterday and its 4 dvds of non stop performances from the famous July 13, 1985 show that was in London and Philly. It was put together to raise money for those starving in Africa. The amount of talent that came together for one day is incredible. Its a must buy for people who love live music.
Does anyone remember watching this show? I was only 7 at the time and have no recollection of it. I had heard some boots of it before, but now watching it. Simply amazing.

I don't remember watching any of it (seeing as I was only 2), but it was something my father always talked about. He had the opportunity to attend the Philadelphia show and passed. I think the DVD is on both our Christmas lists.

I remember watching a good chunk of it (I was 13). I read this past weekend that Zeppelin refused to allow their performance to be included with the DVD because they were embarrassed by the fact that their drummer that day was Phil Collins (who was at the height of his popularity), and Santana refused to allow his performance to be included but didn't offer up a reason why.

What they aired here in the States was pretty awesome. Unfortunatley, it was pretty much an Mtv broadcast so the less mainstream acts were limited to maybe a song and the rest of their performance was nothing more than a background shot to meaningless commentaries and interviews by their lame-ass VJs.
As I recall, Zeppelin wasn't up to form and their performance was mediocre, at best. Plant's voice was pretty awful; he'd been touring to promote his mellower solo stuff off Shaken & tirred and The Principle of Moments (good tunes but definitley not Zeppelin-style) and his efforts to nail the high notes fell way short. It sounded like they hadn't even rehearsed.
Wendy's right, the Bowie-Jagger bit was a huge event as their DITS video was in heavy rotation.
Phil Collins was also huge at the time and his Live-Aid accomplishment was being the only performer to prform on both continents. Yup, he played the Wembley gig, hopped The Concorde and flew to Philly to play "in the much anticipated but, as it turned out, very disappointing Led Zeppelin reunion."
I'm actually looking forward to the updated version "Do They Know It's Christmas" (Geldoff's Band-Aid charity song). I've read that Bono will be reprising the same parts he sang in the original, twenty years ago. Gives me chills just thinkin' about it.
