Missed Flight, Missed Chance haha
#1

Hey all,
Just a quick post to let everyone know what happened to me today.
My dad is speaking at a conference in Toronto over the weekend, and made some quick plans to change his departure date from Friday to Thursday, in order to spend this evening with another speaker who is arrving from Illinois.
Our inital plans called for us to fly out of Kingston (YGK) at 2:00 tomorrow (Friday), and yesterday (wednesday) my dad called me to say that he had instead arranged to fly on a small plane to Toronto today (thursday) and would I like to change my plans to go up a day early?
I thought about it and realized that there was no benefit to me leaving a day early, and more missed classes (I go to Queen's) would only result in more catching up to do later, which I already do enough of anyways due to my habit of sleeping in!
So I decided lastnight that I would stop by the airport today with a coffee to talk to my dad for 30 minutes or so before he flew out.
This morning came late, I slept in until 11 and ended up not going to see my dad with coffee, because I chose instead to EAT WAFFLES for Lunch.

I get home at 2:06....6 minutes after his flight left. My phone was flashing, so I picked it up and checked my messages (which I knew I had since earlier on in the day)....I was greeted by the nice voice of my mother, letting me know that my dad was flying to Toronto with THE HIP!
:nooooo
What a lost opportunity! My dad will spend an hour in very close quarters with the guys, and will have absoultely no idea who they are, unless they tell them.
At the very best, if they do start talking, my dad should be able to remember that I have seen them twice in the past two months, with plans to see them again in two weeks.
Just thought I would share this story with everyone!

For your info, the flight arrives in toronto at 3:06 for any stalkers out there haha

It will mean less to my dad then if he steps on a piece of gum and it gets stuck to his shoe, unfortunately.
By that I mean, the fact that they are a band that he has no interest in won't mean anything special to him. If he has good conversation with some of them, that will make him like the flight and maybe listen to some of their tunes, but as far as being 'starstruck' or for him to consider it anything 'lucky' - it would have to be someone whos music he is into - Elton John, Billy Joel, McCartney, Niel Young, John Denver (deceased in a plane crash, I know), Jaskson Browne maybe, etc.

Understandably, I am wishing that I didn't sleep in today..
It wouldn't sting so bad if it was a flight that I had never considered taking or never had the opportunity to take..the fact that it occured on a flight that I could have been on and was 10 minutes from my dorm, along with the phonecall telling me I should stop by the airport, thats what stings!

Dude! Man oh man....thats must be painful.

Why was your dad flying with them? Was it a private jet or something? Your dad must be a pretty special guy...

bro, i dont think the hip fly private jets....they're rock stars but im pretty sure they can handle flying with us "common folk"

It wasn't a private jet, just a flight from Kingston to Toronto.
My mom told me that Gord wasn't there, and I haven't talked to my dad yet to see how the flight was.

One thing that I do know from experience, is the flights from Kingston to Toronto are always very small planes (at least every time that I've flown that route).

Kingston to Toronto flights are always either on a Dash-8 or a Beech.
Whenever I fly home, I always connect to/from Kingston, not very much more expensive than taking the train or bus.
