I'm going to the show Nov26 @ ACC in Toronto, is The Joel Plaskett Emergency any good? I've never heard any of their stuff yet.

JPE are alright. They are nothing spectacular but they are a decent rock band. Probably as good as Sam Roberts anyway.

seen jpe at amp. the best thing about their entire set was that gord d came out and sang the national anthem other than that, you might as well refill with beer 8)

Such a shame though... Sam Roberts is much better. Like the other posts said, great time to battle the huge beer lines....!

Sam Roberts converted me to a fan after one performance. After seeing JPE, I'd rather be elsewhere - their music just doesn't do it for me.

Ya, they're nothing special. I saw them at the Amp on Canada Day. They're not bad or anything, just nothing to get really excited over. I would've loved to see Sam Roberts tag along for the Canadian tour.

Put me in the JPE camp. I'm Happy to see them. Sam's live act has always left me wanting more. Sam's cuter though... or so I'm told.

JPE's Truthfully, Truthfully was one of the best albums of 2003.

There's plenty of time to get beer inbetween sets... enjoy the music.

All opening acts have slim time slots and are therefore very limited in what they can do, the energy they create, the songs they play, etc. I've seen Sam Roberts, Guster, JPE, The Watchmen all open for the Hip and I've seen them all in their own shows and their own shows are remarkably better especially with Sam and Guster.

I'm just saying that you really can't judge a band just by their opening sets. However, I must agree that JBE this summer in Toronto was a rather weak performance.
