Hip's Greatest Song: Nautical Disaster
#1

The Finals didn't receive as many votes as the other thread, but I noticed Nautical Disaster was running away with it. . 34 votes to 16 or something like that. I didn't forsee much change so it may as well be announced

Nautical Disaster, the one Hip song that rises above all others. Fittingly it is a mix between old material, new material, and a mix between softer soulful songs and harder rocking songs.

It truly is a gem.

Absolutely agreed. The Best? Perhaps. But an excellent song no doubt.

Out of the entire Hip catalogue of songs, this one stands out for me. If I had to choose a "best" song I guess that would be the one. Of course I love all their songs so whatever... :jump

Wow, you just HAD to start one more thread. You didn't think people looking in the finals poll would notice this? You somehow thought people would appreciate yet another unnecessary thread to say something easily discernible from your previous thread?

Three comments:
First, Nautical is great, no doubt about it. For me, it's tough picking THE BEST SONG. Nautical is right up there with Locked and Poets.

Second, if you don't like the thread, don't read it, but be nice.

I forgot what my third comment is. Back to you....

Well...there IS a beef to be made about all those polls, inasmuch as they crowded all kinds of other threads off the front page. That was kind of intrusive and interrupts the natural ebb and flow of things in here. But I suppose it was an interesting exercise and good for a lark---I just hope no one does anything on that board-monopolizing scale again.

As per the thread title, I disagree. Silliness.

As far as the poll goes it was a bit much, but Im not gonna rake the guy over the coals for it, its an open forum and not mine to police. As far as Nautical being the best song, thats open to all kinds of debate, they have so many great songs in their catalogue, who's to say what the best is. I love the tune and its an amazing song, I didnt need a poll to tell me that, all the poll did was confirm what all of us already know.

To be honest, I read all the polls that were posted about which song/album was better, blah blah blah, and thought...why? Confusedcratch: Should I moderate this and delete them? I let it go and basically did it resolve anything? I don't think so. I love the Hip. Period. Sure I have my song favourites and dislikes, who doesn't? I don't need a poll to solve that though.

For polls in the future, let's have some meaningful ones please. Not "do you think this song is better than this song" type polls. :rambo:

I agree, and I feel the same way as Highlander. I also made the decision to let all of those polls go but probably shouldn't have. I agree with Darren 100%...just use common sense when starting a poll. Smile

It is by far their best song. Well, maybe besides Highway Girl. I downloaded the video from 100th meridian this weekend. Sweet. I'd love to hear Gord break into an Edmund Fitzgerald rant in the middle of it sometime.
