I was able to speak with Gord Sinclair after the Toledo, Oh. show last night. I asked him if the setlists for the Canadian tour would be any different than what they have been playing in the US.

He told me that the Canadian shows would be more structured (ie. less changes?) to go with the visual effects they are planning for certain songs. He wasn't very specific, but he mentioned there would be two video screens and other effects.

Sounds interesting.

Maybe he meant that the sets wouldn't change "on the spot" as they do sometimes, in order not to throw off the timing?

Or maybe he meant they will put songs of a similar mood together for an effective show. I.e. 2 or 3 angry songs in a row with red background or something...

It is very possible that your interpetation is right. I definetly wasn't sure what he meant by saying the shows would have more structure.

I hope your interpretation is right... that would suck if it was roughly the same setlist every night. I don't want to have to drive 2 1/2 hours to London to hear the same songs as the night before in Toronto!

No one is making you go to multiple shows. You don't have to make the drive. Most fans don't have the means to go to multiple shows, and as such, varied setlists from show to show mean nothing to them. We are a very small minority in terms of the crowd at a Hip show, and the band has to do what is required to put on the best show for the majority of fans at their shows.

And I'm sure "structured" from a Hip point of view just means not as varied as they usually are. I'm sure there'll still be a few different songs from night to night....

I am really torn on setlists this time around. I would love to hear a crazy rare setlist, but I'm bringing my mother to her first hip show. She told me on the phone today how excited she is and has been listening to every album each week in chronological order. (she's on IVL today) So, i am going to be very happy if they play the "hits" because she'll be so excited to hear them. I'm sure the majority of people there will be like her, excited for the "hits"

No matter what, it's going to be amazing to this band live again. We should be lucky to love such a fantastic band.

I am seeing two shows on the Canadian tour. I am expecting the same good show that we all enjoy with a lot of visual effects to compliment the music.

And from over here, in the country where some of us would kill (well, at least give a nasty chinese burn) to get to see the Hip twice in a row...

I have only seen the band twice, and have never thought of them needing anything on stage with them (projectors etc) but I can see the point of having a more structured setlist so you can get it extra tight during rehersal. Both times I have just been mesmorised by the band themselves.

Leave the stage gimmics to Maiden (still stunned by the 7th Son show. Icebergs for gods sake!!)
