Does anyone here use this?

I know a lot of people do and they've never been negatively effected.
Do you have to turn file sharing on? on their site it says that the files that are shared ar in the Kazaa directory "shared folder"

It doesn't explicitly say other files aren't shared & it doesn't say that they are, either.

Any thoughts/experiences will be appreciated.

I use it quite a lot Mountainhip. As far as I know the only files that are shared are the ones in "My shared folder". I usually move the files to "My music", shouln't be a problem then, at least, I never had any.

Shared files are located under "My Shared Files" directory. In order to share any other directories, you have to explicitly select them.

I use Kazaalite. It was created by some guy who hacked the program and took out all the popup ads and spyware, hence the name.

Good luck.

I use Kazaa Lite as well. Much better than regular Kazaa.
