Leadbelly (one of the great bluesmen of all time) was up the river doing time for MURDER when he gave a performance for the warden and the guy was so struck by Leadbelly's soulful singing and playing that he let him go because the warden really believed he must be repentant. It really happened - it's historical record! Of course, Leadbelly killed between one and three others in his lifetime, so I guess the warden probably didn't get to keep his job.
