How much Hip do you listen too?
#1

I was driving around yesterday listening to Road Apples, and I thought how much time do I spend listening to the hip when I listen to music. Even when I am not glued in front of the stereo. Take your days activities into consideration, like cleaning house, taking a walk, a drive, doing hobbies, work, on the computer, etc...
I was astonished to see that it is only about 30% of the time. Am I a bad fan? Sad

80 to 100% may seem excessive, but most of the time it's all Hip, all the time. I sometimes check out Howard Stern in the mornings and there's a realy good local Detroit FM talk-radio show (Deminski & Doyle on 97.1) I'll occasionally tune in on the ride home. Other than that, non-Hip CDs and my XM Satellite Radio get very little attention. XM is great when travelling and the content is outstanding, so when I need a change, it's my alternative choice.

Gosh, that's a lot of Hip...I'm a 0-20% man, but then, I've been listening to the band since UTH so there's a cumulative effect going on here.

I'm one of these guys who carries around a roster of 'favourite' artists and buys pretty much everything they put out: Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Ron Sexsmith, Gordon Downie and the Hip....maybe U2, although their last album left me unmoved. What they all have in common is great songwriting.

Then there's young bloods like Buck 65 and Kathleen Edwards, but they're still developing---too soon to say if they make the cut to that elevated 'Hip' status. :thumb:

I'm in the 80%-100% category, just ask my g/f, we cant drive anywhere without a bootleg playing in the car. I dont leave with the car until some hip is going

20-40%...I listen to a LOT of music, something's ALWAYS on, and there's too much great music out there to save myself for the Hip all the time!

From the "what are you listening to right now" thread, I would have said most people fit into the 0-20 group.

At the moment (past four months), I put myself in the 60-80% slot. When there's down time with the band (not touring, recording, no new release), I fall into the 40% range.

It also depends on what is happening with other bands I follow.

We play a ton of Hip in our store. People are always aggravated though that we dont ever have any for sale. Noone turns it in!, obviously 8)

Also, I simply CANNOT clean our house without the Hip Big Grin

Sorry but I can't put my finger on an approximate. Some days it's non-stop Hip all day long and other days I merely manage to even think about music at all. It's because of this chaos, this total lack of a routine or a schedule that I love so. Today I watched entirely too much Star Trek (if that possible, lol) and am now moments away from going to get wasted. The other day I ate a cricket. Yesterday I was in the "studio" all day and tomorrow comes when it comes if it comes; I plan on dying today. "Tomorrow" will be a bonus... Yes, I am as insane as I sound... but I wouldn't want it any other way...

It used to be more (than 10%) but I learn to much new music.

Another question will be: how much Hiptunes are you "playing in y'r head".

That's quit a lot. Those songs got nasty hooks...

If I'm listening to a cd, it's about 50%, but I listen to the radio a lot

definately 60-80 right now. Next year it'll probably be closer to 20-40 when all the excitement over the new album and all the concerts have worn off.... Only to come roaring back in time for new album anticipation/touring/post touring. it's a vicious cycle! Big Grin

40-60%, I usually listen to one CD while driving to work, another while driving home. One will be Hip, one will be something else.

It's at the point where I actualy have to force myself to listen to other stuff... "must... broaden... horizons..."

Most of my friends are non-Hip fans, so I've long been driving them nuts with it.
