Remember these guys?? Sadly I never got into them back in the day. I saw them open for the Hip twice in '95 and '97, and for some reason I never really gave them a proper listen, and shame on me. Recently I was reading the chapter on them in the book "Have Not Been the Same", and it made me want to give them another chance. And thanks to my favorite used record store here in Cowtown, I'm now rediscovering the genius that is Ian Blurton and Change of Heart. I absolutely love these guys now! Better late than never I guess. A few weeks ago I found a copy of "Tummysuckle" and today I picked up their last disc "Steelteeth" which is one of the hardest rocking albums I've ever heard. Blurton is a very good songwriter with a great gift for melody. It's a mystery why they never got more exposure outside of the indie-rock community, especially after touring with the Hip so often. I have yet to find a copy of their 1992 masterpiece "Smile", but I'm always on the lookout. Apparently their pre-'92 albums are all out of print, otherwise I'd be looking for those too.

I actually met the drummer's parents (at my wedding no less - my wife's parents are friends with his parents) and told them that I saw them in concert a couple of times (at least once opening for the Hip) and really enjoyed their material. Next time I talk to the mother-in-law I'll have to ask if she can find out what happened to them.

Well, I know that Ian Blurton has played in countless bands since Change of Heart's demise including Blurtonia, Bionic, and his current band, C'Mon. He's also become a talented producer/engineer. Here's a short list of the some of the albums he's produced:

I had the pleasure of recording with Ian a few years ago, on an album that never got released. A friend of mine found a great fan site for him...i'll look around for the url.
Ian OWNS the rock. C'MON is a super power trio w. Randy Curnew on drums, and the bassist (I can't remember her name) from Nashville Pussy.
