TicketBastard strikes again!
#1

Cleveland:
ticket: $26.50
"convenience" charge: $7.70
order processing charge: $4.10

The extra charges are 44% of the ticket price! I expect the opc covers their cost, so we pay a "convenience" for TB to make a 29% profit!!

In comparison,

DC (using tickets.com):
ticket: $25.00
service charge: $5.50
shipping: $3.25

Extras are 35% of ticket price. SC is 22% (probably all profit). Still criminal, but at least lower than TB.

Nice business model. I wish I could get into some racket like this.

Also, I thought Cleveland was in the eastern time zone. According to TB's on sale time, it's in some new zone between eastern and central. You learn something new every day.

I noticed when I bought my DC tix that it was $3.25 to mail them...or you also still paid $3.25 to pick them up at the box office. PLEASE, what a racket that is!! I decided for the mailing route, so I can inconvenience them putting the tix into an envelope and actually sealing it shut and slapping a stamp on it.

Ticketmaster is pure evil. Where's Pearl Jam when you need them? I believe they're still the only artist who ever stood up to those corporate weasels.

It's nice to see the Kingston show is pretty reasonable... considering...

Only 10% service charge... what a deal!

I e-mailed ticketmaster once to complain, they told me that I could always go buy tickets at the box office if I didn't want to pay all their service charges. And I love how when TM sends out surveys about their service now it says "Other than the service charges, how was your ticket buying experience"....

Yeah, I filled that survey out today. The only information I wanted to give TM was that their service charges are outrageously high and that their site was awful this morning re: internet presales being available at the indicated time. Coincidentally, none of the questions in the survey related those points.

A hearty  !! I've never received one of these surveys, so this is new to me. Does it give you a place to write comments? I would say:

"Other than the fact that you raped me several times over with your 44% in additional charges added to the ticket cost and caused me to wait 30 min. for your system to get up and running for Cleveland tickets, my ticket buying experience can be summed up as - well, if you can't say something nice... Ah, screw it, why do you think you're known as TicketBastard?"

That would be an excellent reply. My sentiments exactly.

Why do so many artists go with this company knowing it gouges their fans? Is it because TB is the only ticketing agency with nationwide capabilites or what? Or does the Hip's record company have a cotnract with TB?

Say...do you think the Hip wrote the song "The Bastard" with any specific people in mind? Wink

I take every opportunity I can to let TicketMaster know what I think of their service. Surely, I SHOULD pay a convenience charge to use TM.... I mean, I log on via the internet, click a few buttons, and a week later, the tickets arrive at my doorstep. I'm willing to pay for that.

But the amounts we do pay seem excessive. Even if it was 10% (which seems to much)... let's see, the Hip play Molson Amphitheatre w/ 16,000 people at $50 a ticket. If TM gets 10%, that's $80K. For one show.... friggin' ridiculous. What does an agent get, 15%?

My understanding of why they use TicketMaster - they have to. If you want to sell tickets to an event at Molson Amphitheatre... you have to use TM. TM has locked up a ton of venues, and if you want to play them, you've gotta use TM... and they set their own service charges. That's why Pearl Jam sued... they tried (and found) that they couldn't even launch a nationwide tour thru the US without using TM....
