[The Nth Degree]

After about 50 listens I've gotta say this song is probably one of their 10 best. Powerful lyrics and just a treat to listen to day after day. Anyone else love this song as much as me?

I love the whole album, and I really can't place Hip songs in any kind of order. They all mean something entirely different to me at different times. However, I do believe Goodnight Josephine was a spectacular choice for the album closer.

I remember loving Joe live... then got IBE, read the raving reviews of how much people here loved Goodnight Josephine, but I couldn't really get into it enough... and now I put in IBE just to skip to the last song. It's crazy how often Hip songs are like that for me.

I was absolutely amazed by how much I liked this song. It was completely unexpected because I did not like the live version from Sarnia... I always loved Ballroom because it was so dark and mysterious, but Josephine never did anything for me and I only listened to it a few times. Now it is one of my top three songs on this album, along with New Orleans and Summer. I LOVE the album version... I haven't heard any other live versions since then so I can't say if I would like it live now that I'm used to it, but I agree with you 100% about the album version being amazing.

One of my faves on the album and perhaps over all! Even if it's an upbeat song it's still beautiful and haunting.

I like the album version better than the bootleg that was making the rounds before the album came out.

This is such a fantastic song! It just isn't long enough for me. I put it on repeat until I finally get my fill; before the song's over I already want to hear it again. I love the horns at the end, my favorite part. I can't wait to hear it live!!!!

I DO like it, but the barrie version that I was hooked on was better for me.


Ballroom (You're everywhere) is like that for me too. I am REALLY missing "Here comes a country are you in or you out?"

No, I agree with you...the lyrics to what we know as Ballroom are much better than those to You're Everywhere. The primary difference is that the title of You're Everywhere - and the repetition of same within the song - is way too literal, and way too pop sounding. There's hundreds of brainless country and pop songs with similar titles and phrasing. That first line was awesome, and I miss it.

I got totally hooked on Ballroom and Joe at Edgefest, and repeated listens/views of the bootleg.

I still sing the "original" lyrics in my head when I listen to the album.

Both versions, of both songs are great, but Goodnight Josephine is climbing to the top of my Hip favourites list.
