I know a couple people here have actually been so fortuneate as to meet the Hip. I sometimes try to think what I would say to them if I met them, how would it be? What would I say!?
Perhaps its my own personal loserdom which makes me wonder these things, but I hear that the band is very easy to talk to and get along with. So to those who HAVE met the Hip, I ask how was it? What did they say to you? How did the convo start?
To those who HAVEN'T met the Hip, I ask what you would say if you met 'em at a retaurant or something.
Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. :-P
Well, thats my post, questions? comments?
Ciao.
-Roy

I've met the band too many times to list conversations and stuff. And one time I talked with Rob for about an hour at a radio station, I can't even remember half the stuff that was said. But a couple funny notes from when I met the band...
1. One time Rob signed my concert shirt (that I was wearing at the time), and he was giggling while writing something. He's not normally the one to write a little 'theme' in addition to his name (usually Gord D is the one famous for that)...but I asked him what he wrote, and he commented that it was just something that was true at the time, but wouldn't tell me what. I showed my friend who was with me, and he wouldn't say either. Buggers. So later on, I went to the little girl's room and checked in the mirror. It said 'We're behind you', with his signature. Comical (get it?? He signed it literally standing behind me).
2. One time I was eating pizza at an post-concert party backstage with the band and a hundred other people. I was just about to take a bite of my pizza when Johnny came up to me and said, frantically, 'I wouldn't eat that if I were you. I thought I saw something crawling on the entire pizza earlier'. A gentleman standing beside me commented that that was quite a unique pick-up line, haha.
3. I can't recall what show it was, but afterwards I ran into Gord D. I had seem him earlier that day (before the show, around the time of sound check), and we had a small conversation at that time (sound check). He asked me my name, where I came in from, etc. Well later that evening, after the show, he remembered my name and started singing a funny version of that rap song (LL Cool J??) 'Going Back to Cali', but instead he was singing 'Going Back to Kari'.
I could go on for days...but won't bore you all.
Kari

OK, here is one... I'll keep it short.
Vancouver, Henhouse tour - beginning of the tour.
The night before the tour, I was asked to go to The Old Arena to deliver a BNC cable ( I had an A/V bizz at the time), my friend came up from Seattle for the weekend shows, so we went together. Went in and talked to the road manger...he told us to stick around...met Johnny - tested his new "shaker", talked to Gord S. at the sound board for a while, went to a dressing room - met the rest of the band, chatted for 20 minutes, and thought that was it. We were then told again to stick around. Went to the van, got some beer, phoned everyone we could think of, NOBODY home. Came back in and went around on the floor and sat in our seats that we had for the up coming shows. So eventually settled in at ROW 2 centre, and waited. There were a dozen other people milling about in this huge arena. Before you know it, lights out, FULL ON sound and lights, a private Hip show/sound check for over an hour. We phoned everybody again, this time leaving songs on answering machines. We just rocked as Gord asked us what songs we wanted to hear - my buddy says - "FreeBird" - idiot! However, Gord thought that was pretty funny. He saved Nautical for me until the end, ranted to us forever - classic.
I'll tell you - what a time - we ended up meeting a whole bunch of our buds after, and of course words could not describe it.
Anywho, that's one of many. Keep posted for - "Football with The Hip", "Blind date with Alanis and backstage with the Hip", "Private Hollywood party with The Hip" etc. etc.
Bry AKA Mats.

3 quick ones,
Peterborough> met back at the busses after camp trillium show, talked about music, traded lighter for pick with paul. got autographs and then proceeded to follow bus to next secret show in hamilton.
NYC>Canada day, Got back stage pass for $10 from some dipshit american Creed fan( I think). Met Paul, and Johnny had a couple of beers listening to Great Big Sea.Did an interview for the Ottawa Tribune.
Toronto> IVL Party, Talked with Paul for a while, had a beer or two, then met up with Johnny, signed my friend Frenchies shirt, (and this is the odd part) drew a full drum kit on the back, where on the base it said" Das Hips". then wiped his dorito cheese hands all over it, found it quite funny.

21 shows...probably have met the band 7 or 8 times.......not a bad ration huh!!!
Rochester -water street music hall- M@W promo show.....leaving our hotel room to go down to the venue in the morning.(we had to wait in line for 12 hours outside for this free show, well worth it) hotel elevator door opens...GORD D, MR. FAYE, and MR. SINCLAIR all standing in the elevator.....all 6 of us piled in making it really uncomfortable and we all really were at a loss for words.. we all just laughed collectively at our good fortune. Also i ran over Gord D's foot with my cooler. he was cool about it however!
wow i have all kinds of stories if anyone cares to hear lemme know.
