Not really a rant, but the Millennium countdown with him destroying the balloons just cracks me up.

Personally, when i've tried to tell people about Gord's rants they just look at me weird but when I do (nowadays) I try to relate it to his solo CD by saying he has all these superflous ideas that just float around and he uses the jams as an outlet. Personally that's why I like the CMG so much cause the listener gets to hear what Gord thinks the songs should sound like, not just the words in the middle of a NOIS jam (which is good too don't get me wrong)
I think the one I reference the most is the infamous 'killerwhale tank' cause that's the only one i know that gets any radio play. After that I kind of head into about '95 territory (which origianlly got me interested in the rants!) so....
Starpainters (nach!),
Freaked,
Insomniacs
and Hiccups
are by far the top ones for me, so they would be the ones that I would choose. Over the past while i've kind of gotten more interested in the rants themselves as pieces, espeically when the band is not touring...a fan has to do something with those months right?
As for the current crop (saw Van #1) I'm glad they've gone back to shorter shows with jams, more room for Gord to rant and for those who have tix, watch out for the new one in the middle of Poets...I'll leave it at that, but i'm interested to see where it goes!
All for now

Your Anesthesiologist Tonight
btw does anyone have the Jeff Peters Compilation 'Gather 'Round the Fan?' its great!

Well I've actually told my friends the entire highway girl rant to get 'em into the Hip.
Other wise I like:
"the day I found my muse
it left a nasty melevenant bruise
The bastard being having to choose
between a constantly flickering fuse
and power beyond what you use"
excuse the spelling ;/

My favs
Starpainters
Lofty Pines
Hengelo NOIS rant (Happy B-day Davie, I don't want to know about evil, I only want to know about the love)
Bill's Bar (I think), the one where he's the chinese guy in Tiannamen square, waking up in front of a tank. "Any fish you wish, any fish you wish".

This is my fav. From Regina 2002.
I wanted to bring a whale to Regina. Told me you've never seen one. I wanted to bring a whale on a flatbed truck to Regina. Have you ever seen one? And this is September and the nights are getting cold and man this whale did not hold. We had a trail of seagulls from B.C. following our whale truck, our whale odyssey to the prairies. That's right. We had to portage the wet whale like you just saw me doing, paddling a giant barge up the Hudson's river. We got a little off course. We got the whale to Regina for everyone to see. They came out of their houses, probably just out of curiosity. Turns out most people had seen a whale a few had seen a couple. We had a good plan but its execution wasn't quite subtle. We left the whale here and we were hounded to this day. By angry citizens asking us to take that god damned whale away and they haven't been able to catch us until this day and you got yourself some nice fossilized remains. And the third largest creature on the planet, the Humpback whale, I caught it myself and dragged it up here by the tail.

I'd go with killerwhaletank or double suicide. Both would be a great way to introduce someone to Gord's rants.

i liked the rant from hamilton 12/31/02 when they started courage and gord was "bad mouthing" courage and in the middle of the song
"courage' shows up and gord hadn't noticed and said courage? how long have you been here?? then he's apologizing to him......you had to be there.
also, telling the mike stand that he's a full grown man. or at the last barrie show when he ends with "i am the man.!!

We've all been spoiled, but "Double Suicide" is whithout a doubt the best intro for new fans. I still use it, (And very effectively...) to this day.

I think I might have to agree with Eric C...I love Lofty Pines...I was really glad that it received its due and found its place on CMG. I will always love killerwhaletank [geeky english major observation] because its just so ridiculous if you actually sit and listen to it...as a story. [/geeky english major observation].
Other rants...1998 Bill's Bar...Nautical Disaster...excellent...talking about what it would feel like to have to swim home, to swim through nothingness...great stuff.

Just found another good rant/song in a song. (If that makes sense?) In the beginning of Vapour Trails Gord spits out all the lyrics to Insomniacs. This is from Roseland 4-1-99. Its pretty true to form after Insomniacs, but still very cool. :thumb:
