I think it's the best tune on the album. It reminds me a little of Fire In The Hole or An Inch An Hour. When I'm driving and I get to this song, I CRANK the volume. :thumb:

I can't wait to see them do this song live.....it really does have the undertones of "Fire in the Hole" I also hear ever so slightly some guitar work from 50MC in it as well. I love the part where he talks about the "dorsal fin......closing in". Great stuff!

It's like The Wherewithal meets Rockin in the Free World.
Sorry chris, somebody had to say it eventually.

I love Melt man, wicked tune...The last 45 seconds can only be defined as electric.

It's probably the most "Canuck-centric" track on IBE, what with the hockey and Joni Mitchell references...
I think Melt could be sub-titled "After the Fireworks"...if Fireworks were about the spark at the beginning of a relationship, Melt seems to pick up the "puck" and take it to the point where that spark extinguishes...evolution, anyone?
I'd love to see them juxtapose these two in a setlist... :thumb:

My only beef (if anyone cares) is that he sounds too much like Geddy Lee on that tune. But it is absolutely deadly---especially the part about the dorsal fin, etc..
Are the last twenty seconds or so THE most ferocious guitar work on any Hip album? They just may be. :thumb:

I too love this song. But there is something that I can't get out of my head every time I hear it...
Don't the vocals sound exactly the same as the 'fast' version of So Hard Done By? I love the 'fast' version, but I always thought I had a bad recording because it sounded 'sped up' and the vocals were kind of 'high' (like Mickey Mouse). But now that I hear HOTM, it sounds very similar.

For those who don't like people who sing along at concerts, stay well away from me when they hit the dorsal-fin part of the song. You've been warned.

Oh yeah, if you're in the 100 section at Darien, beware...I've heard the usher's are very Nazi like this year!! They've been know to throw people out for singing along too loudly, hitting beach balls, taking pictures, wearing any NHL jersey other than the Sabres. I know one guy who got kicked out for smiling during the Dave Matthews show.
As for the Heart of the Melt...I have one knock on the song....ITS TOOOOO SHORT!! I could use another minute or so...awesome song.
