The "Coconut Cream" appreciation thread
#1

Alright, this song gets a bad rap. I think perhaps because of the subject matter. But really folks, give this one another listen.

The way the guitars bring a raw edge to the open of the song, followed by Johnny's angry drums (Sounds like he's hurting them!) and the really great riffs and instrumental breaks, make this one a winner.

I think Paul and Bobby do well on this one, and the jet at the end is a nice touch (Not to mention a great transition into "Engaged.")

Coconut Cream, it's no Ahead by a Century, but it's not Evelyn either.

I've always liked the music for Coconut Cream, but I always found the lyrics to be well below Gord's usual standards. However I still laugh every time I hear the "little Christians in a circle jerk" line.

I remember reading somewhere that is was actually johnny who came up with the riff to coconut cream.

Never liked the song much but I listen to it once and awhile, I love the cat/fat butteflies part.
However I wasn't too happy when they played it 2nd after Gift in Syracuse when I saw them there on the Henhouse tour. I wasn't expecting it live, especially 2nd song in the set!

I love it! Its one of my top ten hip faves. I've always been a bigger fan of the faster, upbeat hip tunes.

Meh, I've got no beef with that one either. It fits the film better than it fits the album, but it's decent.

CC is a solid tune. Gord gives a small funny rant to it from Denver in 1996.

I've always liked this tune. As for the lyrics, I always think of, well... something gross. And the circle jerk line doesn't make it any better. it's a great tune though!

Bobby's solo is great, and I love the sound of the jet at the end. Did you know that Johnny recorded this just for fun, not thinking that they would use it in a song?

I love this song, it has a great riff. I don't understand the hate for it, it's just a catchy little pop song to lighten the mood for a pretty somber album.

Sorry, I have gave another listen. Worst song on one of their worst albums. Quite possibly...wait no - it is my worst favourite hip song of all time.
