I need some advice as to what the ideal Hip wedding song would be. It would have to be a slower song to facilitate the whole dancing tradition. What do you think?

I was thinking solely about tempo, and was going to suggest Get Back Again, but the lyrics might not be apropriate...

I had "Trick Rider" from CMG picked out for myself and the other half.

Boring emotional story behind why we picked it, but needless to say the "I'll stroke your hair, I'll dry your cheeks..." and "I'll be your last refuge..." stuff made her (and alright, dammit: Me too ) cry at an appropriate time.

It's got a really nice tempo for a first dance, beautiful lyrics and is simple enough that any wedding band could play it if you wanted to go that route... although the real piano sound is part of the romantic charm I think.

It'd be appropriate for a wedding, and the context fits, although it may be about Gord's daughter and not his wife... but whatever, you just gotta make it your own.

Or you could go with "Fire in The Hole" and get the party started right!

If you want to get into Gord's solo stuff, another suggestion would be Lofty Pines...I always thought it was an understated, quasi-romantic song, simply because of the last lines, w've got world enough and time, dreaming of the Lofty Pines. It hints nicely at a long, wonderfuly, dreamy future.

Off of BOTN, I would suggest that you could use Willow Logic...again, innocence and love.

Another possibly choice could be (back to Hip songs) ABAC...maybe? I dunno...it just feels like love.

Friend of mine and his wife used Fireworks. Great wedding song in my opinion. Not all that traditional really, but it worked really well for them. They had a dance all worked out for the first half of it then motioned everyone else to get up there with them. Good times.

Thought long and hard about that one too... ruled it out because of the "Dissapointing you's gettin' me down."

Although, I think you're right about the love aspect. To me, it's always been about a guy whose running from something, someone (Perhaps his own past) and never been able to settle down long enough (read: emotionally or physically) to give what he feels is owed to the woman whose stuck by him through it all... It's a great couple song I think.

Oh.. oh... and "Every Irrelevance" is another winner Colin.

Although it wasn't the main song at the wedding, I played LTR at one time during the evening last Friday at my friend's wedding. Everyone kinda went into shock, looking around and grabbing whoever was there to dance with. Pretty cool I thought.

Why am I the only one to suggest Scared? Sure, the lyrics, heck the title for that matter don't fit the theme of a wedding, but maybe a instrumental peformance? Yea, I think that'd make a great wedding song, followed by Blow @ High Dough, to as Stephen said "get the party started right."
