I don't know what it is about this track, the chorus line "if new orleans is beat" really hits a chord. It seems to seep defeat. If new orleans is beat then what hope do we have?
Anyone figuring out the lyrics to the new songs? I can hear the first few lines of new orleans, then the chorus but the rest is mumbles.

Gord just told The Bear here in Ottawa that it comes from a personal dissapointment and a realization that New Orleans may really be sinking, (both literally and figuratively) losing some of its "cool," and even some things you think are forever, can change.
He loved a coffee shop in downtown New O, and was taking people to it, regailling them with stories about it and how "some things never change." When they got there, it was gone (Or maybe a Starbucks or something... he wasn't clear) but it hit him: "I guess I took notice." He said: "If New Orleans is beat, what does that leave for you and me..."

The song to me has tons of different meanings:
- It's about if New Orleans is beat and indeed does sink
- It's about about the song, "New Orleans Is Sinking" and if that song is "beat" or worn out
- It's the sequel the the classic, or the second movement if you will.
- It's about having a funny comeback to the fans who wanted another NOIS-like song because it sounds absolutely nothing like it!)
- And finally it's so when a fan yells "Play New Orleans!" They can play this one because i'm sure they are really really bored of the classic one!
...I just find it very interesting that they wrote this song when the tilte and the song meaning seems so similar to their trademark song.

There is a rant about that coffee shop from one of the maritime shows from the "evening with" tour. I taped them, but I can't remember which one, or the exact words. I'll check it out
