Most Hip fans like these albums but they'll likeley be looked upon as low points for the band by the masses. As fans how do you feel these albums have aged? Do you still listen to them alot? Do you skip alot of songs on them?
I have IVL going right now and I haven't listened to it lately. I think it's good but not great...it's almost like they're holding something back, whereas I think Vaccination Scar feels like they're pouring everything they have into it.
M@W is probably the Hip album I listen to the least although I loved it when it came out. I just don't totally "get" songs like The Bear and The Bastard. However, Lake Fever is one of my all-time favourite Hip songs.

I often find M@W surprising me when I listen too it recently. There are so many great songs on it, so many sing along moments, and some really nice production fluorishes. I know that in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal at least, "My M@W" is about the only single I hear on the radio.
IVL is a fun album, great for art rock fans and diehards, but I've got two pseudo-fans buddies that don't even own it. Promotion may have been a problem getting that one to the masses.

I absolutely loved M@W and still do. IVL didn't do much for me (in Hip terms at least - if any other band had done it I would have been impressed) and still doesn't (despite a couple of gems). But IBE is a great bounce back (for my tastes).

I still think Phantom Power was the last great Hip album.

I gotta say IVL is my favourite album.. there isn't a single track that I consider skipping.. I was very into M@W for a long time, right up until IVL came out.. some songs are still among my tops.. but it goes downhill for me with the last couple of tracks (aside from the Bear)..
Phantom Power and Trouble @ the Henhouse are other faves.

I always like every album, but I am pleasantly surprised with how much I like IVL. Listened to the most since it came out over all other albums.

M@W has a few very good songs and it's a good album, but my least favorite Hip album. I love IVL, especially Leave and Dire Wolf.....I think those songs are brilliant.

About a month ago I rediscovered Music at Work. Up until that point it was easily my least favorite Hip album...but no more. It is such a rich album. It takes time to really grasp. For me that was close to four years! The same thing happened for me with TATH. Now I am having trouble with IVL! I really enjoyed it when it came out, but now I am just not taken by it. Hopefully I will rediscover it too! The Hip are funny that way. Anyhoo, that is just my experience with these discs.

PP almost had a theme... couldn't say what is was... but it all made sense... M@W did not flow like PP but I'm ok with that given songs like TIGER I enjoyed greatly for it was different...in a hard way...a nice live treat . Lake Fever is a fav because I love hearing Paul wine/chime in... The Completists is shear brillance...ranks up there for me with Another Midnight.... then there is Toronto #4 just love the story behind it and comes off strong...(alone..) and Train Overnight grew on me at the live shows watching Paul with the Acoustic on this one is alotta fun!
IVL has been one I've revisted recently... and love it. I've grown with the hip and don't cry for the past like other part timers stuck on Fully or Road.
The Darkest One should have been the lead single off IVL and it is one of the best tunes for those of us who love em and those who like the old stuff...
So let's dig in to IBE for 3-6-9 months and then come back to this thread and see how IVL sits....etc..

I like IVL today as much as I did when i first got it, which is not that much. I was very dissapointed by it. I can't really put my finger on it exactly... Well the first track I think is the worst intro to any of their albums, and then there is that stupid Throwing off Glass song right smack in the middle of he album.
I like M@W quite a bit more. I think this album has aged well and of all their albums, this one has the most variety of songs. However, I'll bet that years from now, most of us will say that IBE was better than both of these albums. :thumb:

I love both of those albums, and have since day one. I've considered IVL one of their best, although I would never personally presume to try and rank them in any specific order (in a pinch I've always said Road Apples is my favorite, but it's more of a sentimental favorite than a true "this album is definitely the best of the lot" favorite).
As I've also said in the past, I think that M@W is horribly under-appreciated. It may not be the most cohessive unit, but each song is increadibly strong on it's own.
I'm surprised to see so many dedicated Hip fans put these most recent albums in such a low light. The Hip have alway been about change, and it always seemed to me that the biggest fans were the same ones that have been around the longest, and in-turn they're the ones that must surely appreciate that evolution. However, it looks there's a lot of die hard Hip fans, who are really just die hard UTH or RA or FC or ... fans.
Anyway, I've loved them all, and all I can hope is that this band will continue to grow. Can't wait to hear IBE! You can compare it to RA all you like, and if that's what convinces you to buy it, then great! For me, I'll be glad to hear everything that's new about the album, not what sounds "old". I don't really expect to find much of that anyway. You can find similarities between anything if you really try hard enough. I don't see the need personally.

Hmm I agree with two things said here: M@W is an excellent album (aside from just 2 sonds near the end!!) but there is just no flow to it.. maybe a different order would have been better? Second is that I have progressed with the band.. I don't do it consciously (it happens with 0 other bands), but everytime the Hip puts out a new album it becomes my favourite.. and it generally stays that way. I very rarely listen to older stuff like Up to Here even though I know it is an excellent album and is what got me hooked.. I am much more likely to listen to anything beyond Fully Completely..
