Well seeing as he is the lead singer, and Bobby does a fine job. . I don't think his guitar skills are ever going to be very evident. . does he even have much skill besides chords and the writing process?

I never liked Gord playing the Acoustic because:

1. He is constrained with the guitar and doesn't freak out
2. You really can't hear his guitar over the other ones anyway
3. They already have a rythm guitarist!!
4. The other guys are just far better guitarists.
5. You don't play an acoustic guitar in a rockin song like Nautical Disaster, Springtime In Vienna, or New Orleans. That's just stupid and it takes away from the sound.
6. It is Paul and Bobby's place to shine. Geez, Gord already is the center of attention. Will he want to start playing a drumkit next? Move over Johnny, Gordie wants to play! ... but seriously, he was just the singer, he should stay just the singer.

I disagree...I find it fascinating when a singer/artist wants to expand his/her horizons wanting to learn to play instruments. Just being a singer doesn't allow a musician to grow. I love to watch Gord 'freak out' as you say on stage, but seeing him better himself with a guitar is awesome. He said in an interview before that Johnny is teaching him to play drums as well. He also said, I think in a MM interview, that he wants to start painting, film making, taking pictures, etc. Whenever one can expand, why hold back??

Fine, it's cool if Gord wants to dabble in little bit of everything but that's why he has a solo career. There is no need for him to play acoustic guitar that can't even be heard anyway. No knock against him and I think it's great he can at least play guitar, but he is a very mediocore player and even he would admit that. He's a good enough player to record his solo records but it DOESN'T ADD ANYTHING TO THE HIP!

I have to agree with MattPower, gord needs to keep the guitar down. There is no need for him to pick it up. He is a way better showman when its just him and a mic.

He could obviously always play guitar. . big part of the song writing process. Never is he going to be playing the lead riff, or any solos tho. . and yeah...like someone said before...there is already a a rhythm guitar. . what's the point of two?

I agree with the fact that the guitar is somewhat of an anchor for Gord. Hopefully if he's playing again this tour and on some of the new songs that he's picked up some things from playing alot on last year's solo tour. I know on the Gord I&I he said something about his band pushing him to play solos and such, so hopefully he's improved.

With The Hip I think Gord playing guitar is alright for songs like Wheat Kings, ABAC and Scared. It was a bit of a bummer though on the IVL tour looking forward to seeing All Tore Up and he just stood there strumming his inaudible guitar...same goes for his addition of the acoustic on Springtime In Vienna.
