Don't know if anyone has posted about this. I can't find it online so I'll type type type it out with my tired fingers. It got 4 out 5 stars.


A Canuck national treasure, the Hip still fly below the U.S. radar. They don't write radio-friendly pop songs, and although their bluesy rock is tighter than ever, the songs take time to grow on you. But when they do, be forewarned: This is music that makes you want to drive all night across an endless wasteland of frozen plains (read:Canada)

Nice to see a positive review in a well-read US magazine. Unfortunate the actual content went downhill after issue 25, replaced by ads for $400 bottles of cologne.

If I remember correctly Maxim gave IVL 4/5 stars but the review was only online and not in the magazine...I could be wrong though.

I agree with TLB though that the magazine is absolute crap now. Once you've seen one of them, you've seen them all. I have about 3 years worth of them but haven't bought one in about 18 months. Too many ads for American Eagle, Tommy Hilfiger and hair products I guess they make more money marketing to the Sugar Ray fans.

Same formula for all these mags, T&A and a bunch of BS mixed in with a whack of advertising. Hard to take reviews seriously, good or bad.

I have the first 25 issues. The stories were actually good and the gadgets were actually affordable. Everything changed right around #20.

Did you ever take your Maxim and put them all in order and look at the spine.
Each year is a different picture I believe.

The 25 I have all have black spines but I do have a couple odd issues, namely #50 & #51, that have spines that look like they're part of a larger picture.

i agree the quality of the mag has diminished greatly over the years...but i still have every issue printed and the last 2-3 yrs of spines create a picture...kinda cool when you have them all together

I was searching MAxim for the review of the album and couldnt find it. However this review for Music @ Work did come up:

Also, I remember in an early issue of MAxim, Live Between Us was listed in their top 100 albums for road trips. There must be a Canadian or two working for Maxim... :thumb:

Back in the day when Maxim first started, they listed the top ten "road trip" albums, the hip were on the list with Road Apples or Trouble at the Henhouse, and since then they have always given the boys the praise they deserve.

I got the newest Maxim in the mail on Saturday. The review is in the most recent edition, there is a girl from Catwoman on the cover (not Halle Berry though).

Anyhow, the hilarious (or disturbing) thing is that the picture that goes along with the review is not even the Hip!!! There are 4 or 5 albums being reviewed, and there is a small picture of the album cover over each review. Over the Hip's review is a picture of 3 guys, one with really long sandy brown hair. I looked at it 5 different times and couldn't believe it, if I hadn't seen this post I would have skipped right over the review in the magazine.
