Reggae
#1

I'm a big reggae fan and I was wondering whether there are any other reggae fans here at Hipbase.
Also - does anybody have any suggestions for good reggae tunes or reggae bands that are worth checking out?

Thanks for the input. :thumb:

I love it, it is so positive.

Any Bob Marley is great. Live stuff is incredible!!
Peter Tosh is good too.

If you ever only hear these two reggae gods it will be enough.

I can help out with some live boots if you are interested.

there is a boot out there from the wailers from back in 73 at the plant record studios. This is the best reggae music available bar none. This is before they were Bob Marley and the Wailers. It is very spiritual.

Bob Marley rules, I have at least 5 of his albums and I know tons of his lyrics by heart.
The Wailers are playing in a small club here in Amsterdam tomorrow night but I can't go. Sad

Sweet, thanks for that. I just started looking out for Bob Marley boots, I only have 2 or 3 so far and they're from 1976 and 1977 - good stuff though.

Ah yes..Mr Lover lover himself - I can't really take the guy serious but some of his tunes are quite catchy.

Used to work with a guy from Jamaica who introduced me to the real Reggae of the island. Bob was just the beginning: they've done amazing stuff with the genre in recent years.

And I couldn't believe the photos of Bob's birthday in Kingston. It's like Canada Day in... well, Kingston. Huge national holiday.

Is there any better party music?

I don't like reggae.....
But I smoke weed,
I have a picture of Bob Marley on my wall with a blunt
And I have foot-long braids hanging from my head
(They're close enough to dreads)

Some of those names you mentioned sound familiar, others don't but I'll be checking them out, thanks for that.

True plus you need to know where to look, its not as publicized as a lot of the crap music aimed at the masses out there.

Kim, i want you to seriously take this down, and go buy a cd

Linton Kwesi Johnson.

a brilliant man, above all a 'dub poet' with some killer reggae tracks tied down to his writing. a very serious, politically and socially influenced man, reflected in his obscure and stylistic writing. his socially progressive views, ranging from appartheid to zion to anything seemingly relevant to the struggle of humanitarianism, permeate through his poetry with style, eloquence, and grace. I could not give a stronger recomendation.
