In Between Evolution: Parental Advisory?
#1

I was browsing for some other possible sound samples from the CD when I came across this item description for In Between Evolution.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.iconostore.com/tragically+hip.html">http://www.iconostore.com/tragically+hip.html</a><!-- m -->

In green you can see clearly "Parental Advisory" in green below the title. Then if you go into the album details, there it is again. And once again under the "Notes." Seems as they really wanted to make that clear.

Gordie must have dropped an f-bomb one too many times, nice! But, c'mon Janet Jackson shows half a teet during the Super Bowl and they are coming down hard on everybody. Guess they want to be extra careful.

How come Phantom Power didn't get a Parental Advisory for "...not giving an f about hockey..." hahaha.

Also, does this mean the younger Hip population might have to buy the "edited" version. As if that will really happen, or if an edited version will even exist.

Just thought it was interesting that The Hip would have that big black and white advisory label on one of their CD's.

PS - You can also check out 0:29 second clips here from IBE. I think they are the same clips as we were talking of before. Maybe this link will work better for others.

Probably because the "Good f'n luck, good f'n luck" is a bit more blatant and coarse than the more flowery f-bomb in Fireworks. Plus, I think it was mentioned here in the "I heard the whole thing" thread that Gord drops the 'ol fuddle-duddle a few more times.

Maybe they cover a West Side Connection tune as a bonus track...

"Hey, alright, there's only thirty seconds on tha dial... you mother f*****, ya'll can't mess with none a these mother f******! KINGS-TOOOWWWNN"

The Hip wouldn't have decided to put that on, the CRTC or equivalent for the recording industry decides!

Not always so... the black and white "Parental Advisory" that is well known in the States is often used as a marketing ploy. It's almost a must on hip-hop records. A buddy of mine who raps and had been chasing down a deal for a few years here in Ottawa, finally got signed, (and sent to a plush Australian recording studio) after releasing two demo discs without the advisory on them. (...He's a spiritual rapper believe it or not) The rep actually told him that he probably would have had an easier time being heard and played if the advisory had appeared on the disk. In Canada, it's completly arbitrary and up to the producer to include the infamous black and white logo. It's like a film rating: R movies do better with 18-24 demo's than PG or PG-13 flicks. Silly status symbol? Probably. But it works.

In the US though, I think you're right, the FCC or some division there-in, applies the advisory. It will be interesting to see if Canadian copies of IBE carry a warning.
