Letter From Das Hips regarding PureTracks
#1

Kay, folks, I don't know if this is authentic but it definitely looks to be. This was posted to alt.music.tragically-hip yesterday at 5pm PST under the handle "The Tragically Hip". I haven't received any type of mailer from The Hip or The Hip Club, but this sounds like them and like I said, looks to be authentic.

Hi guys an girls.

We recently became aware of the fact that our newest single is not available to the U.S. or Europe via www.puretracks.com. We are sorry about this oversight on our part. We are now under new management, and we are trying to rectify this problem as fast as possible. We understand that many of you have had to resort to unusual measures to receive a "clean" copy of the single. Until we can rectify this problem, any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you. And do not forget: June 29, 2004 In Between Evolution available in Canada, Europe and the U.S.

Opinions anyone? I think it's the best idea yet addressing the issue of free downloading of VS.

I doubt that that is truly from The Hip. I think that it would have been on their website before anything. I think this is most likely a concerned Hip fan who wants to ensure that the boys are recieving some compensation. It is a good idea, but I am sure that they would have names a charity (ie. Camp Trillium).

Thats my take anyway...

I agree , I can't see the Hip asking for donations for themselves..Charity yes, but not for themselves...But who knows...

I don't believe it. They would post it on thier site and probably send it out in the email newsletter!

I intend on getting the album anyway. I'd check IP # on that and see where it comes from:-)

Also, some of the grammar is very bad as compared to the stuff on the site. Like guys an girls

Yeah, the source for the aforementioned "email from The Hip" is a user on adelphia.net. As far as I know, adelphia is only a provider in the USA.

My thoughts are this is a well worded fake.

I do believe Adelphia is only available in the US! :-D

*Edit*: Well looky there. Just went to their site. You can only put in a zipcode for internet availability. NO POSTAL CODES! :-D

Postal codes rule!

I always thought they were cool. I still remember the one that they gave out on Video Hits, M5W 1E6

Unfortunately, as TLB knows, that newsgroup has been slowly heading downhill and is now innundated with trolls and goofs. So, consider the source...

yeah guys, it smelled like a fake & looked like a fake, and I caught the spelling mistake, I just couldn't ignore the rest of it though. And yes, The Hip would've posted it on their site and/or asked for donations to go to charity.

About postal codes....I have the 1987 Canada/USSR World Jr. brawl game on tape, so I was watching it and the commercials are included. Well after the game 'ended', they went to a CBC News Update with Peter Mansbridge (yes he's that old, plus he's a Hip fan). Anyways, one of the stories was Canada introducing the postal code, requiring it as a part of all addresses from then on. It just sounded so wierd because I thought they were always part of an address, and Mansbridge's monotone voice didn't do anything to make it sound better.

As well, "We are now under new management"?? Wow.....it doesn't take much to sack management now-a-days, considering the Hip just got new management late last year. My guess is it's someone trying to get some money out of this situation.

About Peter mansbridge, remember y2k when they showed save the planet on cbc? when they went back to him he said "That was the Tragically Hip with what's to become of us" not much of a hip fan.

Yes, but he also gave them a rousing intro and caled them the "Musical Chroniclers of our time" at the post 9/11 benefit show, so he's at least a pseudo fan. Hey, give him a break, he is damn near 60!

Good point, I do think he's cool, just thought somebody would have told him what song they were playing, that's all.

Well he was preparing to broadcast the end of the world....

But I know what you mean. It drives me crazy when people get the little things wrong: Like when radio DJ's say "Tragically Hip" with no "The," or when folks say "My favourite album is Fully AND Completely." :x
